THE ROLE
STRIVE Recruitment is proud to partner with a well-established, 100% Canadian-owned hospitality group with a diverse portfolio spanning hotels, restaurants, resorts, sports, construction, and asset management, and operations across Canada, the US, Ireland, and the UK for over 50 years, to recruit for a Cloud Engineer based in Vancouver, BC.

The client is seeking a Cloud Engineer to design, implement, secure, and support their cloud infrastructure, with primary responsibility for Microsoft Azure and secondary support for AWS. This is a hands-on, intermediate-level role for someone who can independently deliver scalable, resilient, and cost-effective cloud platforms, automate deployments, and troubleshoot complex issues across a distributed, multi-site operating business.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, deploy, and manage secure, highly available Microsoft Azure infrastructure across production and non-production environments
- Administer Azure subscriptions, management groups, resource groups, naming standards, tagging, budgets, and policy controls
- Build and support Azure compute, storage, and platform services, including Virtual Machines, App Service, Functions, Storage Accounts, and Azure SQL
- Design and maintain Azure networking, including virtual networks, network security groups, firewalls, load balancers, VPN gateways, and private endpoints
- Manage cloud identity and access using Microsoft Entra ID, role-based access control, managed identities, and least-privilege practices
- Develop and maintain Infrastructure as Code using Terraform, Bicep, or ARM templates, with version control and peer review
- Automate provisioning and operational tasks using PowerShell, Azure CLI, Python, and Azure Automation
- Build and maintain deployment pipelines using Azure DevOps or GitHub Actions, including testing, approvals, and rollback procedures
- Implement monitoring, alerting, and operational dashboards using Azure Monitor, Log Analytics, and Application Insights
- Support cloud security and governance through Azure Policy, Defender for Cloud, Key Vault, encryption, and backup standards
- Plan and execute workload migrations to Azure, including landing-zone preparation, migration runbooks, and post-migration stabilization
- Manage backup, disaster recovery, and business continuity using Azure Backup and Azure Site Recovery
- Monitor cloud consumption and implement cost optimization, rightsizing, and budget controls
- Provide secondary support for AWS environments, including EC2, S3, VPC, IAM, and RDS
- Maintain architecture diagrams, operational procedures, and support documentation
- Coordinate cloud activities across infrastructure, cybersecurity, application, and data teams, and participate in after-hours support for critical incidents when required
Qualifications
- Post-secondary education in information technology, computer science, engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience
- 4+ years of progressive experience in cloud engineering, infrastructure, systems administration, or DevOps, including at least 2 years of hands-on Microsoft Azure experience
- Strong experience implementing and supporting Azure compute, storage, networking, identity, monitoring, governance, backup, and security services
- Practical experience with Microsoft Entra ID, Azure RBAC, Azure Policy, Azure Monitor, Log Analytics, and Key Vault
- Experience developing Infrastructure as Code using Terraform, and preferably Bicep or ARM templates
- Strong scripting and automation capability using PowerShell and Azure CLI
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines and deployment practices using Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions, or equivalent tools
- Working knowledge of Windows and Linux administration, DNS, TCP/IP, routing, firewalls, and hybrid connectivity
Preferred Skills
- Python or Bash scripting experience
- Working knowledge of AWS services such as EC2, S3, VPC, IAM, RDS, CloudWatch, and CloudFormation
- Experience supporting a geographically distributed, multi-site environment, particularly in hospitality, retail, restaurants, or another 24-hour operating business
- Relevant certifications such as Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator Associate, Azure Security Engineer Associate, or Azure Solutions Architect Expert; AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Associate is also an asset

- Cloud resources are provisioned through approved Infrastructure as Code and deployment pipelines
- Cloud incidents and service requests are assessed, escalated, and resolved within established service levels
- Cloud spending is visible, allocated appropriately, and regularly optimized without compromising reliability
- Migrations and platform changes are delivered with clear plans, testing, and minimal business disruption
