Our proactive recruitment approach allows us to uncover high calibre professionals for niche, specialized and what are often regarded as "hard to fill" roles. At the same time, our simple philosophy recognizes the need to fully understand every client and candidate's motivations, requirements and objective.
The Role
Our client is a global leader in aerial firefighting, operating the world's largest privately owned fixed-wing firefighting fleet and supporting wildfire response efforts across North America for the past 60 years. Operating in Canada, the US, Europe, Australia and beyond, the organization provides a comprehensive range of aircraft, crew, maintenance, and training to support government agencies fighting wildfires. Their long-standing reputation for providing service excellence makes them an industry leader.
They are seeking a motivated Junior Designer / CAD Designer with approximately 2 to 3 years of experience to support a 6-month engineering project of design data cleanup on the Dash 8 Q400MRE aerial firefighting aircraft program.
The successful candidate will be responsible for reviewing, updating, and maintaining aircraft interior design data, including SolidWorks 3D models and 2D engineering drawings. The primary objective of the project is to incorporate numerous historical engineering change sheets that have not yet been implemented into the master CAD models and drawing packages, resulting in a complete, accurate, and configuration-controlled design package.
This position offers an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on aerospace design experience while working closely with experienced engineering professionals in a dynamic aircraft modification environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Review engineering drawings, CAD models, and associated change documentation.
- Incorporate approved engineering change sheets into existing SolidWorks 3D models and 2D drawings.
- Ensure consistency between design models, engineering drawings, and released change documentation.
- Identify drawing discrepancies, missing revisions, and documentation inconsistencies.
- Update drawing packages in accordance with company drafting and configuration control standards.
- Generate revised engineering drawings and model releases for engineering review.
- Maintain accurate records of completed updates and design activities.
- Collaborate with engineering, configuration management, and technical publications personnel as required.
- Support other drafting and design activities related to the Dash 8 Q400MRE program as requested.
Skills and Competencies:
- Diploma or degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology, Aircraft Design, Drafting Technology, or a related field.
- Approximately 2 to 3 years of experience in mechanical design, drafting, or CAD design.
- Proficiency with SolidWorks (3D modeling and 2D drawing creation/modification).
- Proficiency with AutoCAD.
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings, bills of materials, and engineering change documentation.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently while following engineering direction and established procedures.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Assets:
- Experience in transportation industries such as aviation, rail, automotive, marine, or heavy equipment.
- Familiarity with engineering change processes and configuration control practices.
- Experience working with legacy design data and drawing conversions.
