POSITION SUMMARY

The Controller plays a pivotal role in ensuring the financial health and profitability of our business units through accurate financial reporting, strong internal controls, and management of our A/P and A/R functions. The Controller will be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day financial processes, including balance sheet reconciliations, month-end close, and project and manufacturing costing. This role is responsible for leading high-performing A/P and A/R functions capable of supporting a complex project-based manufacturing and construction environment. Expertise in financial accounting, reporting and systems is crucial in driving informed decision-making and optimizing project & overall financial performance. The ideal candidate combines strong technical accounting expertise with a practical understanding of manufacturing operations, construction projects, job costing, WIP, inventory, and project profitability.

Anticipated Compensation Range: $115,000 - $135,000 per year*

*The anticipated compensation range for this position is provided as a guideline. Final compensation will be determined based on the successful candidate's skills, experience, qualifications, and market considerations, and may vary above or below the stated range.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Financial Reporting and Oversight:

  • Lead the monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes, ensuring accurate, timely, and complete financial reporting.
  • Prepare and review financial statements, management reporting packages, and financial analysis.
  • Oversee the general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, banking, journal entries, accruals, and account reconciliations.
  • Oversee AP and AR operations, ensuring accurate and timely processing, effective collections and payment practices, and strong financial controls.
  • Own the balance sheet reconciliation process, ensuring accounts are properly supported, reviewed, and resolved on a timely basis.
  • Oversee inventory accounting and valuation, including cycle counts, physical inventories, inventory controls, and reconciliation of inventory records to the general ledger.
  • Lead manufacturing costing, including standard costs, labour burden rates, overhead allocations, variance analysis, and product profitability.
  • Oversee construction project accounting, including project costs, revenue recognition, change orders, WIP, project profitability, and financial reporting.
  • Maintain the integrity and accuracy of accounting records and financial data, ensuring transactions are properly recorded and supported.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain effective internal controls, accounting policies, and financial procedures to safeguard company assets.
  • Ensure compliance with tax, regulatory, and statutory requirements and support annual reviews and audits.

Project Financial Management:

  • Partner with Project Management and Operations to monitor project financial performance, budgets, costs, revenue recognition, and profitability. Make recommendations to improve cost control and optimize project outcomes.
  • Conduct regular reviews with Project Managers to identify variances, address financial issues, and ensure accurate project forecasts and reporting.
  • Develop and maintain appropriate financial reporting and KPIs to support management decision-making and identify opportunities for cost efficiencies and improved profitability.
  • Champion data integrity and ensure timely, accurate financial information is available across the organization.

Operational Excellence:

  • Provide direction, mentorship, and performance feedback to the A/P and A/R team members, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement.
  • Lead by example, demonstrating a strong work ethic, integrity, and professionalism in all interactions with team members and stakeholders.
  • Promote a positive and inclusive work environment, encouraging open communication, creativity, and accountability among team members.
  • Other financial responsibilities as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, business administration, or a related field.
  • CPA designation.
  • At least 7-10 years of experience in finance, accounting, or financial management, with a minimum of 3 years in a leadership role.
  • Strong background in project & manufacturing inventory accounting.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in Microsoft Office, ERP systems and business intelligence tools. Experience with Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central (ERP) is preferred.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret financial data and provide actionable insights.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and stakeholders.
  • Critical thinker with the ability to think outside the box, understand the big picture and develop tactical and strategic business solutions.
  • Experience in business partnering with senior members of the management team.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks, manage multiple deadlines, and work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Demonstrated leadership abilities and a proactive approach to driving process improvements and organizational change.

WORK CONDITIONS

  • In-person-first workplace - approximately 1-2 days/week remote, based on role requirements.
  • Required to remain in a stationary position at a desk for extended periods.
  • Required to wear appropriate PPE while visiting company jobsites/manufacturing facilities.
