Civil Site Foreperson – Earthworks and Grading

The Opportunity
An established heavy civil contractor is looking for an experienced Civil Site Foreperson to support earthworks, grading and site-development projects throughout the Greater Toronto Area.
This is a hands-on field leadership position for someone who understands how to organize civil construction work, lead equipment operators and labour crews, and maintain steady production without compromising safety or workmanship.
The successful candidate will take ownership of daily field execution while working with the broader construction team to address changing site conditions, manage resources and keep work progressing against schedule.
Key Responsibilities
• Direct the daily activities of operators, labourers and other field personnel.
• Translate project plans into practical daily and weekly work priorities.
• Coordinate the use of labour, heavy equipment and construction materials.
• Monitor productivity, workmanship and site conditions throughout each shift.
• Support excavation, rough grading, fine grading and general site-development activities.
• Use digital grade-control, survey or layout technology to verify elevations and completed work.
• Interpret civil drawings, grading plans and applicable project specifications.
• Recognize constructability issues, incomplete information and differences between drawings and field conditions.
• Escalate technical or scheduling concerns and assist in developing practical solutions.
• Coordinate upcoming material, equipment and staffing requirements with the construction team.
• Confirm that incoming materials meet project requirements and are available when needed.
• Maintain accurate records covering labour, equipment, production, quality and site activity.
• Conduct or participate in toolbox meetings, inspections and other required safety activities.
• Promote proper care and organization of company equipment, tools and materials.
• Maintain an orderly and professional worksite.
• Assist directly with field activities when required to maintain progress.
• Communicate effectively with subcontractors, suppliers and other project stakeholders.
• Contribute to look-ahead planning and the coordination of upcoming phases of work.
What You Bring
• At least five years of relevant construction experience.
• Strong practical knowledge of excavation, grading, earthmoving or comparable civil construction activities.
• Previous responsibility for directing crews or coordinating field production.
• Ability to read and interpret civil drawings, site plans and specifications.
• Familiarity with GPS-enabled equipment, grade-control systems or digital construction layout.
• Sound judgment when dealing with production challenges and changing field conditions.
• Ability to plan manpower, equipment and materials around project requirements.
• Strong communication and organizational skills.
• A consistent commitment to safe work practices.
• Ability to complete field reports and other project documentation accurately.
• Valid driver's licence with the ability to travel to active projects throughout the GTA.
• Flexibility to work construction schedules that may vary according to operational requirements.
• Ability to perform the physical duties associated with an active civil construction site.
Experience delivering commercial, industrial or large-scale site-development projects would be particularly valuable.
