Our client is searching for an Accountant to join their team. This role will be responsible for full-cycle accounting and preparing accurate monthly financial statements for a growing construction company, with the opportunity to take on full-cycle accounting responsibilities for a sister company as the role evolves. The ideal candidate is comfortable working closely with Project Managers and has experience supporting project accounting activities including WIP calculations and progress billings. Your success will be defined by your ability to:
- Perform full-cycle accounting, including journal entries, account reconciliations, and month-end close activities
- Assist with the preparation of monthly financial reporting packages and supporting schedules
- Maintain fixed asset records and prepare related continuity schedules
- Review and verify accounting transactions to ensure accuracy and completeness of financial information
- Support project invoicing and accounts receivable activities, including billing preparation, collections follow-up, and contract compliance requirements
- Prepare and analyze work-in-progress (WIP) reporting and collaborate with Project Managers to monitor project performance, costs, and profitability
- Maintain project-related documentation and ensure required records are complete and up to date including insurance certificates, workers' compensation documentation, statutory declarations, and lien waivers
- Assist with accounts payable processing, invoice coding, and vendor account reconciliations
- Prepare monthly GST/PST filings and related account reconciliations
- Assist with inventory tracking and adjustments as required
- Support year-end financial reporting, audit preparation, and external reporting requirements
- Prepare journal entries, accruals, and other accounting adjustments as required
- Maintain the integrity of financial controls, accounting processes, and supporting documentation
- Prepare ad hoc reporting, financial analysis, and special projects to support management decision-making
- Bachelor's Degree in Accounting from an accredited Canadian post-secondary institution is required
- CPA candidate or intending to enroll in the CPA program is considered an asset
- 3+ years of accounting experience with a strong understanding of full-cycle accounting, including the preparation of month-end and year-end financial statements in accordance with ASPE
- Previous experience in the construction industry, including exposure to project accounting, WIP reporting, or progress billing is considered an asset
- Ability to work independently while contributing within a collaborative team environment
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
- High attention to detail and commitment to accuracy
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Excel
- Experience with Sage 50 is considered an asset
