POSITION PROFILE:

Northstar is currently looking for a Jr. Business Development Specialist to join our Sales and Business Development team. This position is in Toronto ON and reports to the National Director of Business Development.

As a Jr. Business Development Specialist, you will be responsible for establishing new business relationships in the commercial and industrial sector.

The purpose of this role is to establish new business relationships within the Greater Toronto Area. This position promotes and develops (scaffolding, swing stage, mast climbers, and other temporary access solutions) business opportunities for the company, and leads company growth, with a primary mandate of adding and developing new customer relationships.

MAJOR JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Canvas and develop new scaffolding, swing stage, and mast climber accounts and explore new areas of temporary access services in the industrial, infrastructure, and commercial markets
  • Secure opportunities with on-site decision-makers
  • Establish relationships and maintain contact with accounts
  • Responsible for onboarding new customers; including account set up, credit checks and organizing all required administrative documents
  • Meet pre-established KPI's including sales goals targets and objectives directed by Management
  • Represent Northstar professionally at customer sites, industry events, association meetings and other market-development activities
  • Review financial performance of new customers including drivers of positive and negative performance to ensure continuous improvement and optimization
  • Attend intensive scaffolding training course
  • Lead customer discovery, site assessments, solution development, presentations, proposal strategy, commercial negotiations and closing activities
  • Work closely with Estimators & Design personnel to prepare proposals, quotations, and contracts in collaboration with operations, finance and legal; verify design requirements from drawings and written instructions as needed, which can include working directly with 3rd party engineers

QUALIFICATIONS (Education/Training, Experience and Certifications)

  • 1-2+ years of industry sales/business development/estimating experience in commercial and/or industrial markets (Note: previous experience estimating/selling scaffolding or other access solutions, or previous experience managing or building scaffolding-related projects would be an asset but is not a pre-requisite.)
  • Valid driver's license in good standing
  • Minimum Highschool diploma, college and university degree preferred

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Agile and highly motivated self-starter who enjoys working in the construction field, being mobile and is comfortable building new relationships
  • Demonstrated a track record of success in prospecting and growing new accounts, creating opportunities for new work, preparing quotes and pitching new clients
  • Proven ability to network effectively with on-site project managers/site supervisors and a history of building and sustaining strong business relationships
  • Some experience in creating proposal and spearhead the drafting of associated contracts and/or service agreements
  • Ability to take initiative and work with minimal supervision under tight time constraints
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Mathematical, mechanical, and logical reasoning abilities
  • Basic knowledge and use of computer software: MS Office, CRM, lead platforms and databases
  • Familiarity with CAD Software also helpful but not required
  • A sense of urgency and capable of responding to matters in a timely manner
  • Valid Drivers license in good standing with access to vehicle during work hours

ENVIRONMENTAL WORKING CONDITIONS & PHYSICAL EFFORT

  • Work is performed in both indoor and outdoor environments where temperatures will range throughout the various seasons with exposure to cold and hot temperatures
  • Standing and walking occurs frequently
  • Driving and sit for long periods of time occurs frequently
  • Working at a desk, viewing a computer screen, and using a keyboard and mouse occurs frequently
  • Work may be performed in confined spaces
  • Full-face respirators may be required for extended periods
  • Stooping, knelling, crawling, and crouching is required occasionally
  • Exposure to vibrations may occur and may be required to wear hearing protection devices- example man hoist
