Job Overview
We are seeking a skilled, highly autonomous Heavy Equipment Technician (Field Service) to join our Thunder Bay team. In this role, you will diagnose, maintain, and repair heavy industrial and construction equipment directly at customer jobsites. If you enjoy hands-on problem solving, working independently in the field, and mastering electrical and mechanical systems, we want to hear from you.
Key Responsibilities
- Field Maintenance & Repair: Perform on-site troubleshooting, diagnostic tests, routine maintenance, and major repairs on various heavy equipment models.
- Electrical Diagnostics: Diagnose, repair, and overhaul complex electrical systems, wiring harnesses, electronic controls, and sensors.
- Mechanical & Hydraulics: Repair engine, transmission, drive train, and dynamic hydraulic systems.
- Service Documentation: Complete detailed daily service reports, work orders, and parts requests accurately and promptly.
- Customer Focus: Act as a technical representative for RNT Mechanical Ltd., maintaining strong, professional relationships with on-site clients.
- Safety First: Adhere strictly to all site-specific safety regulations, provincial health and safety guidelines, and company safety standards.
Required Qualifications & Skills
- Certification: Valid Red Seal Heavy Equipment Technician (421A) certification is mandatory.
- Electrical Expertise: Proven track record in field troubleshooting electrical and electronic systems on modern heavy machinery.
- Experience: Minimum 3–5 years of hands-on field service experience with heavy civil, mining, forestry, or construction equipment.
- Driver's License: Valid Driver's License with a clean abstract (commercial/heavy truck license considered an asset).
- Work Ethic: Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to work independently in variable northern outdoor weather conditions.
- Safety & Compliance: Up-to-date working knowledge of safety procedures and jobsite hazard assessments.
