About Citadel Fence

Citadel Fence builds high-quality residential and commercial fencing solutions that protect homes, businesses and infrastructure across Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and Prince Edward Island. We're growing because our team takes pride in the quality of the work, the customer experience, and the long-term relationships we build with our clients.
Our ambition is clear: to become the most admired brand for barrier protection in Atlantic Canada. We take pride in every detail, work safely, and collaborate closely. From the first estimate to the final installation, we are driven to the last post.

About the Role

Citadel Fence is looking for an experienced Controller who wants more than clean books and a predictable month-end.
You will lead the company's financial operations, but you will also get close to the jobs, people and processes that determine whether the business runs efficiently and profitably.
Reporting to the President, you will own full-cycle accounting, establish and maintain accounting policies and procedures, and sharpen our approach to job costing, budgeting and cash-flow management — giving the team a clear view of what is working, what is not, and what needs to happen next. You will also serve as the primary financial resource for the shareholders, external accountants, and other key stakeholders. Some days will call for strategic financial guidance; others will require you to roll up your sleeves and solve the issue in front of you.
This is a hands-on role for a CPA who enjoys working in a small business environment, is comfortable taking on a broad range of responsibilities, takes pride in getting the details right, and is driven to leave every process stronger than they found it. Experience in construction, contracting or another project-based industry would be a strong advantage.

Responsibilities

  • Review and set accounting policies for the business
  • Full cycle accounting & finance for the entire business
  • Liaise with the external accountant on the annual notice-to-reader report, year-end filings, and tax filings, acting as the primary resource person throughout the process
  • Multi-provincial tax/compliance oversight
  • Prepare and analyze the monthly reporting package for owners and other stakeholders, including cash flow, job costing, and aging reports
  • Prepare forecasts and projections as required by external stakeholders (insurance, banking, vendors, etc.)
  • Support budgeting and job-cost tracking across active projects, and assist in the review and finalization of the annual budget
  • Lead month-end close, including reconciliation of bank loans, credit cards, AP/AR, leases, WCB, payroll etc.)
  • Manage and oversee the daily cash flow position
  • Prepare Work-in-Progress (WIP) reports for the management team and complete related journal entries
  • Track and manage fixed assets and equipment, including capital purchases, depreciation schedules, and disposals
  • Complete year-end physical inventory counts and reconcile results to the general ledger
  • Audit and process payroll on a bi-weekly basis
  • Calculate, submit, and track government remittances, including payroll and HST filing
  • Ensure timely payment of subcontractors and suppliers
  • Process supplier invoices and data entry through Dext, monitor the AP email inbox
  • Manage Visa transactions and receipts, maintain accurate payment records
  • Apply Accounts Receivable payments
  • Collect deposits, conduct collections calls, follow up on outstanding accounts
  • Coordinate customer financing applications and release funds through FinanceIt
  • Complete commercial & residential customer billing
  • Other ad hoc duties as requested

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Accounting, or a related field
  • Professional accounting designation (CPA) required
  • 5+ years of proven accounting experience
  • MBA not required, but considered an asset
  • Experience with QuickBooks Online is a must
  • Experience in construction, contracting, or a project-based industry considered an asset
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills and the ability to commit to, and meet, tight deadlines
  • Demonstrated ability to multi-task, analyze, and problem-solve complex issues
  • Proficiency with the MS Office suite, with advanced Excel skills and comfort building and analyzing complex financial models and spreadsheets
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team

What we Offer

  • Salary starting from $90,000 per year (based on experience)
  • A great team and family environment
  • Benefits package after 3 months, including Extended Health, Dental, Vision & Life Insurance
  • RRSP matching after 6 months
  • Phone and plan provided
  • 3 weeks paid vacation
