GCS General Contracting Services Inc. is seeking an experienced and motivated Concrete Foreman / Forewoman to lead concrete construction projects throughout the Edmonton area.

POSITION OVERVIEW

The Concrete Foreman / Forewoman is responsible for overseeing day-to-day field operations, coordinating labor, equipment, and materials, and ensuring projects are completed safely, efficiently, and to specification.

This position requires a strong leader who can manage crews, communicate effectively with project stakeholders, and maintain GCS's commitment to safety and quality.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Leadership & Supervision

  • Lead, mentor, and supervise concrete crews on various construction projects.
  • Promote and enforce a strong Safety-First culture.
  • Delegate work assignments and monitor crew productivity and performance.
  • Provide coaching, training, and constructive feedback to employees.
  • Conduct daily toolbox meetings, safety meetings, and site inspections.

Project Execution

  • Read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, rebar layouts, and locates.
  • Coordinate concrete forming, reinforcing, placement, and finishing activities.
  • Plan daily work activities and effectively schedule labor, equipment, and materials.
  • Execute projects according to project plans, schedules, budgets, and quality requirements.
  • Work closely with Project Managers, Superintendents, clients, subcontractors, and suppliers.
  • Anticipate and resolve field issues to minimize downtime and maintain productivity.

Safety & Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with Alberta Occupational Health & Safety legislation and company safety policies.
  • Complete and review FLHAs, hazard assessments, permits, inspections, and other required documentation.
  • Monitor worker competencies, certifications, and site-specific orientations.
  • Investigate incidents, implement corrective actions, and maintain HSE standards.

Administration & Reporting

  • Track labor, equipment usage, production, quality control, and project progress.
  • Approve and verify employee time entries daily.
  • Submit material, equipment, and personnel requisitions as required.
  • Review job costing information and job code accuracy with Project Management.
  • Ensure all permits and required documentation remain current and valid throughout the project.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required

  • Minimum 5 years of concrete construction experience.
  • Minimum 3 years of supervisory or foreman experience in commercial, municipal, or civil construction.
  • Proven experience leading concrete crews and managing field operations.
  • Strong knowledge of forming, reinforcing, placing, and finishing concrete.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and utility locates.
  • Knowledge of Alberta Occupational Health & Safety legislation.
  • Strong organizational, planning, and time management skills.
  • Excellent communication and leadership abilities.
  • Valid Class 5 Driver's License with a clean driver's abstract.

Preferred Assets

  • Experience with municipal concrete projects, sidewalks, curbs, and flatwork.
  • Experience managing multiple crews and concurrent projects.
  • Construction management or leadership training.
  • Knowledge of project scheduling and productivity tracking systems.

REQUIRED SAFETY CERTIFICATIONS

Candidates must possess:

  • Leadership for Safety Excellence (LSE)
  • Ground Disturbance Level II (Supervisory)
  • Standard First Aid with CPR
  • CSTS 2020

Additional safety certifications are considered an asset.
