Director, Software Development

A growing HealthTech in Calgary is seeking a Director of Software Development to lead an engineering team through a key scaling phase. Reporting directly to the VP of Software Development, you will lead a team while remaining hands-on with architecture, code quality, and technical strategy. This role offers a limited hybrid work model with expectations for 4 days in-office.
About the Role

• Team Leadership: Manage and mentor a multidisciplinary team, including an Architect, Project Manager, Lead Developer, Developers, and QA Engineers.
• Technical Strategy & Execution: Drive architecture, review code, and integrate AI-assisted tools across the software development lifecycle.
• Delivery & Governance: Own sprint planning and technical roadmaps while maintaining high standards for code quality, security, and data privacy.
• Executive Partnership: Act as a collaborative leader who can constructively push back, challenge assumptions, and reach agreement with executive stakeholders.

Qualifications

• Growth & Scale Experience: Proven people management experience taking software products from a start-up or growth stage into a production environment.
• Tech Stack: Hands-on proficiency with Typescript, Node.js, React.js, and AWS native architecture.
• Communication & Influence: Demonstrated ability to respectfully question leadership and drive consensus on critical decisions.
• Domain Knowledge (Nice-to-Have): Experience in HealthTech or working within regulated environments.
