Position Summary
Our client is seeking an experienced Structural Steel Fabricator / Burn Table Operator with a strong background in heavy plate fabrication and steel burning.
The successful candidate will have hands-on experience operating plasma and oxy-fuel/gas plate burning equipment, working from blueprints, and preparing structural steel components for fabrication and welding.
Responsibilities
- Operate CNC and/or manual burn tables
- Perform plasma cutting and oxy-fuel/gas plate burning
- Cut heavy steel plate to required dimensions and specifications
- Set up cutting parameters based on plate thickness and material
- Read and interpret blueprints, shop drawings, and cut lists
- Perform layout and measurements accurately
- Identify material grades, thicknesses, and cutting requirements
- Inspect finished parts for dimensional accuracy and cut quality
- Grind, clean, and prepare burned parts for fabrication
- Perform basic troubleshooting and preventative maintenance on burning equipment
- Operate overhead cranes and material-handling equipment
- Safely load and unload heavy plate
- Work closely with fitters, welders, and fabrication teams
- Follow all company safety procedures and quality standards
Required Experience
- Minimum 5 years of structural steel fabrication or plate-burning experience
- Strong experience operating plasma cutting equipment
- Strong experience with oxy-fuel / gas plate burning
- Experience working with heavy structural steel plate
- Burn table operating experience
- Ability to read and interpret structural fabrication drawings
- Strong measuring and layout skills
- Comfortable using grinders, torches, and fabrication tools
- Experience operating overhead cranes
- Strong understanding of shop safety and heavy material handling
