Surveyor

PACT (Pearson Accelerator Construction Team) is a General Partnership of Alberici, Amico, Kenaidan, and Obayashi, supported by design partners Egis, Mott MacDonald, and Weston Williamson + Partners. Together, we are delivering Accelerator, a major program of Pearson LIFT (Long-term Investment in Facilities and Terminals), Toronto Pearson's infrastructure development plan. This multi-year program is designed to address immediate passenger growth demands while preparing Canada's largest airport for the future of air travel—including critical upgrades to airfield and infrastructure, greenhouse gas reduction initiatives, modernization of Terminals 1 and 3, and the creation of a world-class passenger experience.

Reporting to the Survey Manager or Lead Field Engineer, the Surveyor plays a critical role in ensuring the spatial accuracy of infrastructure, civil, and airfield developments across the GTAA Accelerator Program. Operating within a high-security, fast-paced airport environment, this position is responsible for establishing primary controls, executing precise layout activities, and performing comprehensive as-built surveys. The Surveyor collaborates closely with superintendent teams, project managers, and subcontractors to mitigate spatial conflicts and maintain strict compliance with project design specifications and aviation safety standards.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Field Layout & Control: Establish, maintain, and verify primary and secondary survey control networks across various sub-programs, including airfield civil/electrical and terminal infrastructure.
• Data Collection & Analysis: Perform topographical, volumetric, and as-built surveys utilizing advanced geomatics equipment to capture precise field data.
• Design Verification: Review and interpret complex civil, structural, and architectural construction drawings to identify potential discrepancies prior to field layout operations.
• As-Built Documentation: Prepare, process, and maintain accurate field notes, digital survey files, and final as-built drawings for quality assurance and handover documentation.
• Subcontractor Oversight: Audit and verify the layout work performed by subcontractors to ensure compliance with project tolerances and design criteria.
• Machine Control Management: Support the implementation and troubleshooting of 3D machine control models on heavy civil construction equipment.
• Safety & Compliance: Execute all survey operations in strict accordance with PACT safety policies, GTAA airport operational guidelines, and active airfield security protocols.
  

Your work schedule will be during site hours. Flexibility to work nights and weekends, as required by the construction schedule, is expected. Any schedule changes or on-call requirements will be managed in accordance with applicable employment standards legislation. It is mandatory for all employees to complete a Criminal Background check and successfully attain a Restricted Access Identity Card (RAIC) upon joining the company.

QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE & COMPETENCIES

• Education: Diploma or Degree in Geomatics, Civil Engineering Technology, Surveying Engineering, or a related discipline.
• Experience: Minimum of 5-10 years of progressive field surveying experience within heavy civil infrastructure, transit, rail, or large-scale capital construction projects. Prior experience in an active airport environment is highly desirable.
• Technical Equipment: Proficiency with modern surveying instruments, including Total Stations (Robotic), GNSS/GPS receivers, and digital levels.
• Software Proficiency: Strong working knowledge of survey data processing software (e.g., Leica Geo Office, Trimble Business Center) and CAD platforms (AutoCAD Civil 3D or MicroStation).
• Competencies: Advanced understanding of coordinate systems, datums, projections, and 3D modeling concepts applicable to heavy civil and airfield grading.
• Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills to effectively coordinate layout requirements with field operations staff, engineering teams, and client representatives.
• Project Delivery: Demonstrated ability to manage competing priorities under tight schedules in a dynamic, high-security construction environment.

The salary range for this role is entirely dependent on years of experience and level of responsibility assigned. The expected range can vary from $90 000 to $125 000 proportionately to years of experience
