Position Summary

The Company we are working with is a manufacturer and global supplier of products for the laboratory instrumentation market.

The company is seeking a highly organized Accounting Technician for an 18 month contract for a parental leave cover. The candidate will exhibit excellent technical, oral and written communication skills, interpersonal skills, and a demonstrated capability to work independently. A strong understanding of accounting procedures and hands-on experience is an asset. This position has a combination of in-office and remote work days.

Primary Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and process corporate journal entries accurately and within established timelines.
  • Support month-end close activities, including preparation of supporting schedules and reconciliations.
  • Support corporate financial reporting through report preparation, account analysis and variance analysis.
  • Reconcile and analyze general ledger accounts, investigate discrepancies and assist with resolution of reconciling items.
  • Support accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll and treasury activities as required.
  • Assist with the preparation and filing of sales tax returns and related reconciliations.
  • Prepare supporting documentation and respond to audit queries as directed.
  • Support finance systems, data validation and data cleansing activities.
  • Assist with maintaining accurate accounting records and supporting documentation.
  • Identify discrepancies, process issues and opportunities for improvement and escalate as appropriate.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Background and Experience Sought:

  • 1 to 3 years of general accounting experience.
  • Understanding of accounting concepts and principles, including debits and credits, journal entries, accruals and account reconciliations.
  • Experience supporting month-end close activities.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage recurring deadlines and priorities.
  • Strong Excel skills, including formulas, lookups, PivotTables and working with large data sets.
  • Experience using accounting software such as QuickBooks or a similar accounting or ERP system.
  • Ability to investigate discrepancies, analyze financial information and communicate findings clearly.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.

Nice to Have:

  • Experience supporting financial or external audits.
  • Experience with accounting system implementations or conversions.
  • Experience with data analytics and reporting tools.
  • Exposure to Power Query, Power Pivot, DAX and M Code.
  • Experience with process documentation, data cleansing or finance process improvement.

Education:

  • Diploma or degree in accounting, finance or a related discipline.

Schedule:

  • Monday to Friday

Work Location:

Hybrid 2-3 days in office in Calgary
