Position Summary
The Company we are working with is a manufacturer and global supplier of products for the laboratory instrumentation market.
The company is seeking a highly organized Accounting Technician for an 18 month contract for a parental leave cover. The candidate will exhibit excellent technical, oral and written communication skills, interpersonal skills, and a demonstrated capability to work independently. A strong understanding of accounting procedures and hands-on experience is an asset. This position has a combination of in-office and remote work days.
Primary Duties/Responsibilities:
- Prepare and process corporate journal entries accurately and within established timelines.
- Support month-end close activities, including preparation of supporting schedules and reconciliations.
- Support corporate financial reporting through report preparation, account analysis and variance analysis.
- Reconcile and analyze general ledger accounts, investigate discrepancies and assist with resolution of reconciling items.
- Support accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll and treasury activities as required.
- Assist with the preparation and filing of sales tax returns and related reconciliations.
- Prepare supporting documentation and respond to audit queries as directed.
- Support finance systems, data validation and data cleansing activities.
- Assist with maintaining accurate accounting records and supporting documentation.
- Identify discrepancies, process issues and opportunities for improvement and escalate as appropriate.
- Other duties as assigned.
Background and Experience Sought:
- 1 to 3 years of general accounting experience.
- Understanding of accounting concepts and principles, including debits and credits, journal entries, accruals and account reconciliations.
- Experience supporting month-end close activities.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage recurring deadlines and priorities.
- Strong Excel skills, including formulas, lookups, PivotTables and working with large data sets.
- Experience using accounting software such as QuickBooks or a similar accounting or ERP system.
- Ability to investigate discrepancies, analyze financial information and communicate findings clearly.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
Nice to Have:
- Experience supporting financial or external audits.
- Experience with accounting system implementations or conversions.
- Experience with data analytics and reporting tools.
- Exposure to Power Query, Power Pivot, DAX and M Code.
- Experience with process documentation, data cleansing or finance process improvement.
Education:
- Diploma or degree in accounting, finance or a related discipline.

- Monday to Friday
Work Location:
Hybrid 2-3 days in office in Calgary
