Human Resources Generalist
Belleville, ON | Full-Time, Permanent | On-Site
Salary Range: $80,000-90,000
We are hiring a Human Resources Generalist to join a strong HR team supporting a well-established automotive manufacturing facility in Belleville, Ontario.
This is a hands-on role for someone who enjoys being on the plant floor, working directly with employees and leaders, and taking meaningful ownership of employee relations, workplace investigations, and HR programs.
The facility is non-union but operates with the structure and fairness often found in a unionized environment. This includes employee advocacy, a fairness committee, and seniority-based practices. Experience working in or alongside labour relations would translate well to this environment.
This is a busy, fast-paced plant, and the ability to thrive in that setting will be key to success.
What You Will Do
- Provide day-to-day HR support and guidance to leaders and employees regarding policies, procedures, and employment-related matters.
- Manage employee relations, performance management, workplace investigations, and corrective-action processes from start to finish.
- Apply a strong working knowledge of employment law, legislation, and regulations to everyday decisions and guidance.
- Champion fair and consistent practices, including supporting the fairness committee and seniority-based processes.
- Partner with operations leaders and supervisors on workforce planning, employee engagement, and training initiatives.
- Coordinate full-cycle recruitment, onboarding, and orientation activities.
- Administer attendance management, disability claims, workplace accommodations, and return-to-work programs.
- Maintain accurate employee records and reporting in Dayforce while protecting confidentiality and data integrity.
- Assist with system automation projects, including opportunities to introduce automated tools and AI into HR processes.
The Team
You will join a seasoned HR team consisting of two Generalists, a Senior Generalist, an HR Coordinator, a Talent Development Specialist, and two Payroll professionals. Everyone pitches in, and the team remains closely connected to the plant floor, where the work happens.
What You Bring
- A diploma or degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Industrial Relations, or a related field.
- Six to ten years of experience in Human Resources, ideally in a generalist capacity.
- A solid understanding of Ontario employment legislation, including the Employment Standards Act, and the ability to apply it in practice.
- Experience with employee relations, workplace investigations, or labour relations, including exposure to a unionized or similarly structured environment.
- Comfort working with HRIS and payroll systems; experience with Dayforce is preferred.
- Some proficiency in payroll would be advantageous.
- An interest in process improvement, system automation, and emerging HR technologies.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build trust at every level of the organization.
- A high degree of discretion and professionalism when handling confidential matters.
- A self-starting approach, with the ability to prioritize competing demands and work accurately with close attention to detail.
- A proven ability to remain organized and effective in a high-volume, fast-moving environment.
Assets
- Experience in a manufacturing or automotive environment.
- A CHRL or CHRP designation is considered an asset but is not required.
