The Senior Employee Relations Specialist is a senior subject matter expert responsible for managing complex and sensitive employee relations matters across the organization. The role provides practical, risk-based guidance to leaders and HR partners while ensuring employee matters are handled consistently, fairly and in alignment with employment legislation, company policies and organizational values.

In addition to independently managing a portfolio of complex ER matters, the Senior Employee Relations Specialist will act as a technical resource to the broader HR team, helping strengthen investigation practices, documentation, case management standards and overall ER capability. This role is well suited to an experienced ER professional who can independently assess risk, navigate ambiguity and provide clear recommendations in a fast-paced, multi-location organization.

What will you be doing?

  • Employee Relations & Case Management:
    • Independently manage complex and sensitive employee relations matters, including workplace investigations, performance management, attendance, accommodations and workplace concerns.
    • Assess matters based on the facts, employment legislation, company policy, precedent and overall organizational risk.
    • Provide clear, practical recommendations to HR and business leaders on appropriate courses of action.
    • Support progressive discipline, performance management and termination processes, ensuring decisions are appropriately documented and consistently applied.
    • Manage cases from intake through resolution, maintaining strong documentation, timelines and follow-up.
    • Identify matters requiring escalation to senior HR leadership, Legal or other internal stakeholders.
  • Workplace Investigations:
    • Lead complex and sensitive workplace investigations from intake through findings and recommendations.
    • Develop investigation plans, conduct interviews, assess evidence and credibility, and prepare clear findings and recommendations.
    • Ensure investigations are completed objectively, thoroughly and within appropriate timelines.
    • Support the broader HR team in strengthening investigation practices and documentation.
  • HR Advisory & ER Excellence:
    • Serve as a trusted ER advisor to HR Managers and business leaders on complex employee matters.
    • Coach leaders on difficult employee conversations, performance management, documentation and conflict resolution.
    • Provide guidance on complex workplace accommodations, leaves and return-to-work matters in partnership with HR, Benefits and other stakeholders.
    • Act as a technical resource to Employee Relations Specialists and the broader HR team, providing coaching on complex cases and ER best practices.
    • Identify trends across employee relations matters and provide insights and recommendations to HR leadership.
    • Contribute to the development of ER processes, policies, manager tools and practices that strengthen consistency and organizational capability.

What experience do you have?

  • CHRP/CHRL designation or equivalent HR certification is considered an asset.
  • Experience supporting a multi-location, operational or geographically dispersed workforce is strongly preferred.
  • Strong communication and influencing skills with the ability to effectively advise and coach leaders.
  • Strong investigation, critical thinking and judgment skills, with the ability to assess facts and provide practical, risk-based recommendations.
  • Strong knowledge of Canadian employment standards, human rights and related employment legislation.
  • Demonstrated experience independently managing complex and sensitive employee relations matters.
  • 5+ years of progressive Human Resources experience with significant depth in employee relations, workplace investigations and performance management.

We offer a Flexible Work Program that provides you the ability to work three days onsite per week, from our Mississauga office.

$93,500.00 – $110,000.00 CAD (includes base salary and bonus)
