The Company - PCH Builders

Backed by a highly capable, credentialed, and professional team, our family-owned company delivers Urban Development, Mountain Development, Property Management, and Civil Works across Alberta.

For more than 13 years, we have built over 400 homes across Calgary and surrounding areas, ranging from apartments to luxury detached residences. We also manage more than 300 rental homes, giving us a deep understanding of the needs of homeowners, residents, and investors alike.

Our 61 people team brings decades of hands-on construction experience, complemented by engineering, master's, and MBA credentials. Together, we combine technical expertise, disciplined execution, and a personal commitment to guide every project with confidence and deliver thoughtfully crafted spaces where families, communities, and investments grow.

Our company has experienced rapid growth in recent years, and to support this expansion, we're looking for passionate individuals ready to grow with us as we continue to transform the Calgary and Bow Valley communities.

The Opportunity

Our company is on a trajectory to expand rapidly across Calgary and the Bow Valley, bringing heightened project scope across our single-family, multi-family, and apartment building developments. The skilled trade professional that will join PCH as our Concrete Formwork Specialist - Skilled Labour will be an integral part of our field execution team, driving high standards of quality, safety, and precision during the foundational and structural stages of our builds.

Reporting directly to the Site Supervisor, the team member in this role will execute hands-on formwork assembly, placement, and rebar reinforcement across footings, foundation walls, structural columns, and Suspended Main Floor Slabs (Two-Way Concrete Slabs) across projects in Calgary and surrounding regional sites. Working alongside our dedicated site crews, you will transform engineering drawings into durable, perfectly aligned concrete structures.

Additionally, PCH Builders operates as a cohesive, adaptable team. We do not hire individuals to sit in a single, rigid role. Beyond concrete formwork, you will bring the willingness to cross-train, learn new trades, step into general construction, and support various site functions across all stages of a build when concrete operations are not active.

We are seeking a highly motivated, versatile craftsman with a sharp, detail-oriented mindset. You will be a key operator on our job sites, responsible not just for executing day-to-day formwork and rebar needs, but for guiding general labour, maintaining high cycle speeds, and actively driving project quality.

Core Responsibilities

1. Formwork Assembly & Structural Placement

  • Build, set, align, and dismantle formwork systems for footings, foundation walls, structural columns, and Suspended Main Floor Slabs (Two-Way Slabs) across residential and multi-family sites.
  • Read and interpret site layout lines, elevations, plumb lines, and engineering drawings to ensure precise formwork placement for suspended slabs and structural supports.
  • Install shoring, reshoring, stakes, pins, walers, scaffolding, and bracing systems to secure forms and prevent deflection or movement during concrete pours.

2. Rebar & Steel Reinforcement Installation

  • Read, interpret, and execute rebar placement schedules, bar lists, and structural drawings for suspended two-way slabs and foundation elements.
  • Measure, cut, bend, pack, place, and tie rebar and welded wire mesh (WWM) within formwork for walls, columns, footings, and elevated slabs prior to concrete pours.
  • Install chairs, dobies, and continuous bolsters to guarantee proper rebar clearance, concrete cover, and structural lap splices according to building codes.

3. Multi-Trade Adaptability, Cross-Training & General Site Operations

  • Cross-Functional Trade Work: Understand that this role extends beyond concrete formwork. When formwork is complete or on hold, you will actively pivot to general carpentry, framing support, site prep, backfilling, siding, material handling, or structural maintenance.
  • Continuous Learning: Demonstrate a strong willingness to be trained on new tools, machinery, materials, and construction methods across various trades to broaden your site capabilities.
  • Team-First Versatility: Travel to and support various project sites across Calgary and surrounding regions (including Canmore and the Bow Valley), taking on whatever site tasks are needed to keep projects moving forward efficiently.

4. Tool & Equipment Operation

  • Safely operate trade power tools (circular saws, rebar cutters/tier tools, pneumatic equipment, grinders, drills) required for form construction, timber shaping, rebar fabrication, and general construction work.
  • Maintain power tools, hand equipment, and job site hardware in clean, safe working condition.
  • Load, unload, and organize construction materials and formwork panels efficiently across active job sites.

5. Safety & Quality Compliance

  • Enforce Alberta OH&S regulations and PCH Builders safety policies on site at all times, including strict PPE compliance.
  • Conduct and participate in daily morning hazard assessments and safety huddles.
  • Maintain clean, organized, and hazard-free work zones to protect workers, sub-contractors, and the public.

Ideal Candidate Profile

  • Experience: 3+ years of hands-on construction experience working in concrete foundation/structural stages, with broad general construction skills across residential or commercial builds.
  • Technical Fluency: Direct experience with formwork systems for structural columns, walls, and Suspended Main Floor Slabs (Two-Way Slabs). Proficient with rebar fabrication, placement, trade power tools, and basic layout verification.
  • Credentials: Valid Class 5 Driver's License with a clean abstract.
  • Active safety tickets (CSTS-20, WHMIS, Fall Protection, First Aid) are considered strong assets.
  • Mindset: Highly adaptable team player willing to take on varied construction duties as project needs evolve. Safety-conscious, dependable, and proud of quality craftsmanship.

What is required

  • Work On-Site & Travel: 5 days a week on active project sites across Calgary, the Bow Valley (e.g., Canmore), and surrounding areas. Willingness to travel to regional job sites as needed.
  • Flexibility & Adaptability: Ability and willingness to work in different construction roles and perform general site tasks when concrete formwork is not active. Flexibility to work overtime during peak project cycles.
  • Driver's license: Class 5 minimum required with access to reliable personal transportation to travel to various jobsites.
  • Criminal background check: Successful completion of a criminal background check is required.
  • Physical requirements: Physical fitness and stamina to regularly lift up to 50+ pounds, perform manual labour, stand for long periods, and work outdoors in changing weather conditions.
