Job Summary:

GDI Ainsworth is seeking an Electrical Estimator to join its growing Vancouver team. The Electrical Estimator is responsible for preparing accurate, complete, and competitive estimates in response to tenders, bid requests, and Requests for Quotation (RFQs) for retrofit projects in the industrial, commercial, and institutional markets. The role collaborates with Project Managers, Service Managers, and Foremen to review each opportunity and confirm alignment on scope, pricing, labour, material, equipment, and subcontractor requirements.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct thorough reviews of project specifications, drawings, and tender documents.
  • Prepare comprehensive material and labour take-offs.
  • Coordinate pricing packages with suppliers, subcontractors, owners, designers, and architects in support of tenders and bid requests.
  • Review estimates with Project Managers, Service Managers, and/or Foremen to confirm alignment on labour, material, equipment, and subcontractor costs.
  • Prepare complete and competitive tenders by quantifying, organizing, and tabulating all material, equipment, labour, and subcontractor costs required to complete the project.
  • Liaise with Procurement to obtain pricing for applicable components of each estimate.
  • Participate in site reviews, estimate reviews, tender hand-offs, project closeouts, and operational or sector meetings with Project Managers, Service Managers, and Procurement, as required.
  • Evaluate incoming opportunities and provide guidance on bid viability, competitiveness, potential additional work, risks, and overall alignment with business objectives.
  • Prepare risk reviews to support collaborative evaluation of estimates with the Project Manager and/or Service Manager.
  • Support the sales team in developing proposals, as required.
  • Review tender closing requirements and coordinate the completion of signed or sealed documents, bonding, insurance certificates, and other required submissions.
  • Maintain accurate tracking of all bids and proposals in the designated Excel workbook and submit the information to Project Administration for entry into the CRM system.
  • Use estimating software effectively and collaborate with the software provider to enhance, streamline, and improve its functionality for GDI Ainsworth.
  • Contribute to a collaborative team environment and support the collective success of the organization.
  • Comply with all company policies and procedures.
  • Perform all duties in a safe and healthy manner, in accordance with applicable company Health, Safety, and Environmental policies and all relevant government legislation and regulations.
  • Comply with the Company's Quality System operating procedures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by Management.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 5 years of electrical estimating, electrical project coordination and/or electrical project management experience in the ICI market.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; post-secondary education in electrical technology, construction management, or a related field is considered an asset.
  • Electrical trade certificate, Red Seal endorsement, FSR designation or equivalent field experience would be considered a strong asset.
  • Strong working knowledge of the Canadian Electrical Code and its application to electrical estimating, project scope, and code-compliant installations.
  • Proficiency with Accubid, Bluebeam Revu, Excel, Word, Outlook, and other estimating and project management tools.
  • Excellent analytical and organizational skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both written and verbal, with clients, consultants, subcontractors, suppliers, field teams and internal stakeholders.
  • Proven ability to multi-task, prioritize competing demands and meet strict deadlines.
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to identify scope gaps, exclusions, risks and opportunities.

The salary range is $95,000 - $130,000 per year. Actual salaries will vary based on factors such as education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as alignment with market data. The base salary is just one component of Ainsworth's total compensation package, which also includes additional rewards and benefits such as short-term incentives and health insurance, among others.
