Custodian (Non-Exempt)

Position Summary

We are seeking a dependable and hardworking Custodian to maintain the cleanliness, safety, and overall condition of our facilities, equipment, and grounds. The Custodian performs a variety of cleaning, maintenance, material-handling, and facility-support duties in an industrial laundry environment.

The ideal candidate is safety-conscious, able to work independently and as part of a team, and comfortable performing physically demanding work throughout the shift.

Key Responsibilities

Cleaning & Sanitation

• Perform heavy cleaning of plant equipment using compressed air and other approved cleaning methods.
• Scrub, sanitize, vacuum, sweep, and mop floors and surfaces.
• Clean offices, bathrooms, break rooms, production areas, and other facility spaces.
• Empty trash, clean spills, replace air fresheners, change light bulbs, and maintain water coolers.
• Maintain a neat, clean, and organized work area.

Facility & Grounds Maintenance

• Move furniture, supplies, textiles, and equipment within departments or into storage.
• Prepare facilities and work areas for meetings, banquets, and other events.
• Maintain exterior grounds, including trimming shrubs and clearing walkways of snow, leaves, and debris.
• Report repairs, spills, safety concerns, hazardous conditions, and other facility issues to supervision.

Materials & Equipment

• Operate a powered industrial truck, where required and properly certified, to move, transfer, load, and unload materials.
• Monitor cleaning and maintenance supplies and maintain appropriate inventory levels.
• Restock bathrooms, break rooms, and other areas with required supplies.
• Maintain accurate records of maintenance and cleaning activities.

Qualifications

• Basic knowledge of cleaning products, equipment, and painting techniques.
• Ability to effectively prioritize and manage multiple tasks while working both independently and as part of a team.
• Basic knowledge and safe use of hand tools.
• Ability to understand and follow written and verbal instructions accurately.
• Ability to safely operate a powered industrial truck, where required, and obtain the necessary certification.
• Strong commitment to maintaining a safe, clean, and organized workplace.

Physical Requirements

This position requires the ability to perform physically demanding tasks for the duration of the work shift, including:

• Standing and walking for extended periods.
• Bending, reaching, twisting, stooping, and working in cramped areas.
• Reaching overhead.
• Pushing, pulling, and grasping.
• Lifting up to 90 pounds.
• Carrying up to 50 pounds.

Work Environment

The Custodian works both indoors and outdoors of an industrial laundry facility. Working conditions may include:

• Large machinery and industrial equipment.
• General office areas and outside grounds.
• Varying temperatures and humidity levels.
• Odors, lint, dust, and other typical industrial laundry conditions.
• Potentially cramped or confined work areas.

Appropriate PPE and safety procedures must be followed at all times.
