About the Role
We are confirming our search for a Manager, Property Accounting to join our team at a pivotal stage of growth and operational evolution.
This position is process led and execution focused. It is less about managing a large team and more about owning, strengthening, and modernizing the end-to-end property accounting process across a defined portfolio. You will oversee a small team, but your primary impact will come from building discipline, improving workflows, optimizing systems, and ensuring reporting integrity in a high-volume environment.
In addition to the duties typically expected of an accounting professional, responsibilities will include:
Property Accounting and Reporting
• Own the monthly, quarterly, and annual accounting and reporting for an assigned portfolio of properties.
• Prepare and review journal entries, accruals, and adjustments related to property operations, capital activity, and renovations.
• Complete and review bank reconciliations, general ledger reconciliations, and month end close activities.
• Ensure financial statements are accurate, complete, and delivered on time.
• Prepare variance analysis and simple performance summaries for property operations and management.
• Maintain supporting schedules including property taxes, utilities, and other recurring items.
People Leadership and Daily Oversight
• Lead, engage, and support a small team of property accountants, setting clear expectations and modelling strong accountability.
• Build a high performing team culture focused on accuracy, ownership, and follow through.
• Review work for quality and completeness, providing timely coaching and constructive feedback.
• Set priorities, manage workloads, and ensure deadlines are consistently met without sacrificing quality.
• Train, onboard, and develop team members to build capability, confidence, and consistency in execution.
• Address performance issues directly and fairly, reinforcing standards and supporting improvement.
• Create a collaborative, engaged and respectful team environment where issues are surfaced early and solved quickly.
Processes, Systems, and Improvements
• Ensure established accounting processes are followed consistently across the portfolio.
• Identify gaps, errors, or inefficiencies in day to day processes and implement practical improvements.
• Support basic budgeting and forecasting activities by coordinating inputs and validating numbers.
• Assist with audits by preparing schedules, responding to questions, and ensuring documentation is complete.
• Use Yardi and related tools effectively and help the team adopt more efficient ways of working.
• Take on detailed work that would otherwise sit with the Director, freeing them to focus on higher level priorities.
Operations Support
• Work closely with property management teams to answer questions, explain results, and resolve issues.
• Support tracking and reporting of work order, maintenance, and renovation activity as needed.
• Respond to ad hoc requests and issues related to property accounting.
Qualifications
• Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field.
• CPA designation is an asset but not required.
• Five plus years of hands on accounting experience, preferably in property accounting or real estate.
• Proven experience managing and developing an accounting team, including setting expectations, reviewing work, and providing regular feedback.
• Demonstrated ability to build a reliable, engaged, and high performing team through clear direction, coaching, and accountability.
• Strong attention to detail with a willingness to roll up your sleeves and work directly in the numbers alongside the team.
• Practical experience identifying gaps, improving processes, and strengthening day to day execution.
• Ability to prioritize work, manage multiple deadlines, and keep the team focused in a fast paced environment.
• Clear, straightforward communication style with the ability to explain accounting information to non finance partners.
• Bilingualism in English and French is preferred.
• Experience with Yardi is a strong asset.
