Construction & Heavy Equipment Instructor

Omnia Training is seeking a knowledgeable and safety-focused Instructor to support the delivery of hands-on construction and equipment-operator training at our St. Albert facility.

The successful candidate will have practical construction experience and be comfortable assisting students with concrete work, landscaping, carpentry and heavy-equipment operation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist the lead instructor with classroom and hands-on training activities.
  • Demonstrate safe construction practices, tools and basic work procedures.
  • Support training in concrete preparation, forming, placement and finishing.
  • Assist with landscaping activities, including grading, base preparation, retaining walls and paving stones.
  • Support carpentry projects involving measuring, cutting, assembly and safe tool use.
  • Demonstrate and supervise the safe operation of excavators, skid steers and loaders.
  • Help students complete equipment inspections and pre-use checks.
  • Monitor students during practical activities and provide guidance when required.
  • Reinforce safety procedures, PPE requirements and hazard awareness.
  • Prepare tools, equipment and materials before each training activity.
  • Maintain organized and safe classrooms, shops and outdoor training areas.
  • Assist with attendance, student progress and practical assessments.

Qualifications

  • Previous construction-industry experience.
  • Practical experience in concrete, landscaping and carpentry.
  • Operating experience with excavators, skid steers and loaders.
  • Strong understanding of construction and equipment safety.
  • Ability to communicate instructions clearly and work patiently with students from different backgrounds.
  • Comfortable working indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Able to perform the physical requirements of the position.
  • Valid Class 5 driver's license and reliable transportation.
  • Experience supervising, mentoring or training others is an asset.
  • Relevant safety certifications and equipment-operator credentials are assets.
