Job Title: PARSSY Program Coordinator

Department: Youth Programs

Reports to: Program Manager

Job Summary:

The PARSSY Program Coordinator will serve as the primary liaison between the Africa Centre and other agencies and institutions, including the school and justice systems, involved in the promotion of restorative practice initiatives that target at-risk youth.

Duties: ·

  • Develop positive relationships with youth participants and conduct individualized needs assessment·
  • Prepare detailed progress notes, updates, program evaluations and reports, while monitoring program timeline ·
  • Work with partner schools, the Edmonton Police Service, and other community organizations and initiatives to address youth needs·
  • Assist in representing youth needs to help collaborators gain a holistic view of youth's emotional, social, and psychological development ·
  • Outreach and network with other community resources to assist the youth·
  • Facilitate youth transition to constructive and meaningful extracurricular activities, such as recreational and culturally relevant activities, that address their needs and individual interests while diverting their focus to beneficial and healthy interactions·
  • Support and advocate for students facing suspension or expulsion and other disciplinary hearings, including court hearings·
  • Facilitate the intake and referral of ACB youth from the Edmonton Police Services youth division unit ·

Outreach to other schools and community organizations

  • Recruit and train volunteers to support program delivery
  • Build and train community leaders to act as Wisdom Keepers and to facilitate restorative circles with youth

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Coordinates the day-to-day operations of the program and implements programmatic and administrative services to attain program goals and objectives.
  • Provides supervisory support to the program volunteers.
  • Coordinates stakeholder meetings between school personnel, youth, and families
  • Makes programmatic and administrative recommendations pertaining to the PARSSY program to management.

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Familiarity with community support systems, health care and human service resources, court, and police activities
  • Good organizational skills and administrative abilities
  • Flexibility in days and hours available for scheduled work, including weekends.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent observational and listening skills.
  • Interpersonal communication and facilitation skills

Education and Experience:

  • A Bachelor's degree in the humanities, social work, or a related field required.
  • Ability to communicate fluently in both or either French and English will be an added advantage.
  • At least three years of professional experience in the mental health or human services fields required with at least three years at the supervisory level preferred.
  • At least three years' experience working with at-risk youth.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license and have access to a private vehicle.

Working Conditions

  • This is a full-time position of 40 hours per week. Generally, the work week is Monday to Friday from 9:00 am – 5:00 pm. You may be required to work evenings/weekends.
  • Must have access to a vehicle.
