Progressive Stamping Dies | Automotive OEM & Aftermarket
Summary
We are seeking an experienced Tool & Die Maker to join our Tool Room team supporting the production of progressive metal stamping dies and custom tooling for the automotive OEM and aftermarket sectors.
The successful candidate will have strong hands-on experience building, maintaining, troubleshooting, and modifying progressive stamping dies, with the ability to take tooling from assembly and tryout through production support. This is an excellent opportunity for a skilled tradesperson who takes pride in precision work, problem-solving, and producing high-quality custom tooling.
ResponsibilitiesBuild, assemble, repair, modify, and maintain progressive stamping dies and custom automotive tooling.
Assemble and fine-tune new dies from components through tryout and production readiness.
Troubleshoot and repair dies during production runs to maintain part quality and minimize downtime.
Perform die servicing, including component grinding, fitting, shimming, spotting, polishing, and adjustment.
Conduct die tryouts and make precision adjustments to achieve required part dimensions, tolerances, and quality standards.
Manufacture and maintain spare die components to support production requirements.
Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, die designs, specifications, and GD&T.
Set up and operate conventional and CNC mills, lathes, grinders, saws, and other tool-room equipment.
Use precision measuring equipment including micrometers, calipers, gauge blocks, dial indicators, and other inspection tools.
Verify dimensions, clearances, alignment, fit, and surface finish of tooling and components.
Inspect completed dies for functionality, accuracy, fit, finish, and defects.
Work closely with production and engineering teams to resolve tooling and stamping issues.
Maintain tooling, equipment, and work areas in a safe, clean, and organized condition.
Follow all company quality, safety, and operating procedures.
Perform other related Tool Room duties as required.
5–10+ years of hands-on Tool & Die Maker experience, preferably in automotive metal stamping.
Strong experience with progressive stamping dies, including die build, assembly, tryout, troubleshooting, repair, and maintenance.
Experience supporting automotive OEM and/or aftermarket stamped components is highly preferred.
Journeyperson Tool & Die Maker certification (430A / C of Q) or equivalent practical experience.
Strong mechanical aptitude and precision machining skills.
Proficient in operating tool-room equipment, including mills, lathes, surface grinders, and related machinery.
Ability to read and interpret blueprints, tooling drawings, and engineering specifications.
Strong knowledge of precision measurement, tolerances, clearances, and die fitting.
Ability to independently diagnose and resolve progressive-die problems in a production environment.
Experience with custom tooling and one-off or low-volume die builds is an asset.
