Established in 1976 the Saskatchewan Indian Institute of Technologies (SIIT) is a First Nation governed post-secondary institution. You can contribute to that success while building your career.Nature and ScopeThe Curriculum Writer is responsible for developing, adapting, and updating trades-related curriculum in alignment with Red Seal standards, Saskatchewan Apprenticeship and Trade Certification Commission (SATCC) requirements, and SIIT's Indigenous-centered learning principles. This role ensures that trades programs are technically accurate, culturally relevant, and pedagogically sound. This position will positively promote and create an environment that demonstrates SIIT's vision, mission, and mandate.General AccountabilityThe Curriculum Writer is responsible for ensuring the creation and continuous improvement of SIIT's curriculum. This position leads the research and development of all components of the curriculum, including the program and learning outcomes, instructional and assessment methods appropriate for the achievement of those objectives, as well as, the ongoing review and updating of content and evaluation of courses. The Curriculum Writer is responsible for the ongoing development and design of curriculum related to the programs offered at SIIT. This position is required to provide expert advice on all aspects of curriculum development. This position includes the following accountabilities: Specific AccountabilitiesCurriculum ManagementPlan, develop, implement, revise, and evaluate curriculum in keeping with changes in practice, legislation, and regulationCreate appropriate learning outcomes, activities, assessments, and assessment rubrics for courses in alignment with SIIT curriculum standards and frameworksIdentify, evaluate, and integrate relevant course resources that support varied learning needsIntegrate culturally responsive approaches by embedding Indigenous contexts and examples where relevant, ensuring content is respectful, accurate, and aligned with SIIT's commitment to Indigenous educationWork with instructors, Program Coordinators, subject matter experts, and industry representatives to maintain currency and technical accuracyCollaborate with Academic Development team members to align curriculum with institutional standards and delivery modesApply adult-learning best practices and an understanding of diverse student needs when developing course materialsParticipate in an onboarding session for SIIT curriculum writersContribute to the instructional design process for the online learning environmentAdvise in the selection and use of various media in the learning environmentDevelop assessment tools and learning activities within SIIT's learning management systemSupport instructional staff in understanding and applying curriculum materialsProvide support for pilot delivery of curriculum and revise curriculum materialsAssist in creating exam/assessment blueprints for coursesEnsure continuous evaluation of question databanksTrack updates to trades codes and standards and revise curriculum accordinglyLead or co-develop trades curriculum packages, including manuals, lesson plans, assessments, and digital modulesEnsure curriculum aligns with harmonized Red Seal objectives and provincial standardsReporting & CompliancePrepare required documents for release of copyrighted materialsMaintain communication, documentation, and records in accordance with SIIT's intellectual property policies and organizational standardsConduct research and consult with key collaborators to inform curriculum decisionsEnsure practices adhere to SIIT processes and procedures for consistent, efficient delivery with emphasis on continual improvementConsult with stakeholders regularly to manage curriculum development processMaintain content integrity of assigned programs through ongoing analysis, delivery observation, and post-delivery reviewsAssist in development and implementation of the program evaluation strategy, and ensure that evaluation data and analyses are used effectively for ongoing program enhancementConduct research and consult with key collaborators for curriculum development purposesIdentify resources required to develop and deliver training projectsRelationship ManagementCollaborate with internal and external stakeholders, including program advisory committee members, to ensure curriculum relevance and qualityServe as the subject matter expert (SME) or work with identified SMEs to ensure technical accuracy and industry alignmentIdentify potential issues or challenges in the curriculum development process and support the creation of solutionsDemonstrate leadership and initiative in sharing research and outcomes with key academic leadersContribute to SIIT's strategic effectiveness by representing and participating on internal and external committees, as requiredRequired Qualifications and Experience:Master's degree in Education, Curriculum Development, Instructional Design, or a related field; or Journeyperson or Red Seal certification in an applicable tradeThree to six years of related experience in teaching, training, curriculum development, or industryExperience developing instructional materials or teaching in trades educationKnowledge of SATCC and Red Seal curriculum frameworksStrong written communication skills and ability to translate technical content for instructional useKnowledge of First Nations culture, histories, and organizations is an assetUnderstanding of adult learning theories and principles is an assetAn equivalent combination of education and experience may be consideredRequired Competencies: Flexible and Adaptable, Relationship Building, Results Oriented, Communication (Written), Student Focus, Teamwork, Knowledge and Expertise, Commitment to Learning, Initiative.This is a full time, term position up to 18 months (with possibility of extension).
