Job Title: Sales Engineer

Location: Toronto, ON

General Accountability and Summary

This role will appeal to a collaborative individual with a broad interest in and exposure to project planning, proposal development, and business development across the mining, energy, and infrastructure sectors. The individual will be motivated to contribute to TMG's next phase of growth and development. The Sales Engineer plays a central technical-commercial role within TMG's sales and proposal process, supporting revenue generation through proposal development, opportunity support, Salesforce/CRM reporting, sales enablement, Sales and Marketing coordination, process improvement, and proposal-to-project handover.

Key Responsibilities

  • Primary Functions for Sales Engineer:
    • Proposal strategy, development, ownership, compliance, and quality control.
    • Technical-commercial solution development, including scope, deliverables, assumptions, exclusions, execution approach, pricing support, and resourcing.
    • Proposal-to-project handover and selected client/project coordination.
    • Salesforce/CRM data governance, opportunity and proposal tracking, dashboards, and reporting.
    • Sales process improvement, proposal automation, and sales enablement.
    • Priority account and opportunity research.
    • Coordination among Sales, Marketing, Group Managers, Project Managers, technical contributors, and leadership.
  • Lead and coordinate corporate proposal development, including the timely review of client Requests for Quotation, Requests for Proposal, expressions of interest, scopes of work, addenda, and submission requirements, and distribute relevant requirements to proposal contributors.
  • Prepare detailed and accurate bid documentation in accordance with TMG procedures and client requirements. Identify and document exceptions, clarifications, assumptions, exclusions, and submission risks, and develop or coordinate execution plans, methodologies, budgets, schedules, and resource plans.
  • Review contractual and commercial terms for consistency with the proposal, approved assumptions, and corporate policies, and identify items requiring clarification or escalation.
  • Work with the appropriate Group Managers and Project Managers, collectively referred to as the Sales Team, to support bid/no-bid decisions, proposal strategy, client positioning, and delivery approach.
  • Work with the Sales Team and external contractors and suppliers, as required, to develop fit-for-purpose client solutions that are technically executable and commercially aligned.
  • Work with the Sales Team to develop or coordinate accurate cost estimates, pricing inputs, resourcing plans, schedules, and commercial assumptions for each project scope.
  • Maintain accurate and current Salesforce records for accounts, contacts, opportunities, activities, and proposals, and support CRM data quality, dashboards, reporting, user guidance, and process consistency.
  • Work closely with Marketing to develop and maintain proposal exhibits, appendices, project profiles, case studies, CVs, capability materials, sales collateral, and illustrative documents aligned with business development priorities.
  • Support alignment between Sales and Marketing by integrating CRM data, campaigns, client follow-up, case studies, sales materials, and event activities to priority accounts and opportunities.
  • Develop and improve proposal templates, SOPs, checklists, compliance matrices, sales tools, dashboards, and proposal automation workflows, including process documentation, testing, and user guidance.
  • Support the development and maintenance of standard proposal content, templates, knowledge libraries, and reusable technical-commercial materials.
  • Support client presentations, proposal interviews, clarification responses, submission correspondence, and proposal follow-up, as required.
  • Participate in project kick-off meetings and coordinate a complete proposal-to-project handover package, including agreed scope, deliverables, assumptions, exclusions, commercial details, resourcing, and key client commitments.
  • Provide recurring sales operations support, including sales presentations and reporting materials, CRM maintenance and user support, proposal library and document support, meeting preparation, follow-up tracking, and related sales activities.
  • Collaborate with Account Managers and Business Development professionals on active leads, priority accounts, client meeting preparation, opportunity research, and follow-up activities.
  • Represent TMG at key conferences, trade shows, client meetings, and other business development events, as required.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Skills & Competencies

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to translate technical and commercial information into clear client-facing documents.
  • Ability to interpret RFQs, RFPs, scopes of work, contractual requirements, and client instructions.
  • Strong proposal development, technical writing, document development, editing, formatting, and quality-control skills using Microsoft Office.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities, contributors, and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong planning, organizational, coordination, and attention-to-detail skills.
  • Ability to identify gaps, risks, assumptions, clarifications, and inconsistencies and recommend practical solutions.
  • Ability to organize and execute strategic and tactical activities within defined schedules and budgets.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure and coordinate with contractors, vendors, consultants, clients, and internal stakeholders to meet tight deadlines.
  • Customer-focused, with sound professional judgment, tact, and diplomacy.
  • Ability to work proactively and independently within a small, collaborative team.
  • Comfortable working in office and project-site environments.

Experience, Qualifications & Education

  • 5+ years of relevant experience in the mining, energy, or infrastructure sectors, preferably within engineering, consulting, EPC/EPCM, construction management, owner's team, or other project delivery organizations.
  • 2+ years of experience in technical sales, proposal development, business development, or solution-based professional services.
  • Experience developing or coordinating proposals, execution plans, or technical-commercial submissions for EPC/EPCM, owner's team, consulting, or comparable project delivery organizations.
  • Experience developing or supporting execution plans, budgets, schedules, resourcing plans, cost estimates, and commercial submissions.
  • Experience using a CRM system is required; Salesforce experience is preferred.
  • Experience maintaining CRM data quality, opportunity and proposal tracking, dashboards, reporting, and workflows.
  • Post-secondary education in engineering, business, project management, communications, or a related discipline is preferred; an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience will be considered.
  • Willing and able to travel for business development, client, conference, and project-related activities.
  • Bilingual proficiency in English and French would be an asset.

Position Dynamics

  • Internal Relationships: President, Vice President of Corporate Development, Group Managers, Project Managers, Sales Managers, Marketing, technical contributors, and corporate support functions.
  • External Relationships: Mining / Energy / Infrastructure, Contractors, Vendors, Engineering Consulting Firms, financial institutions, government regulators and other project stakeholders.
