The Director, Real Estate & Facilities is responsible for leading goeasy's real estate, construction, and facilities strategy across our retail networks. This role provides strategic oversight of site selection, lease management, store development, facilities operations, and portfolio optimization initiatives while leading a team responsible for the successful execution of construction projects, maintenance programs, and real estate activities.
The Director will partner closely with Retail Operations, Finance, Marketing, Merchandising, and Executive Leadership to ensure the organization's physical footprint supports growth objectives, customer experience, operational effectiveness, and long-term business performance. This leader will play a key role in shaping the future retail network by balancing growth opportunities, customer needs, operational requirements, and financial performance.
What will you be doing?
- Real Estate Strategy & Portfolio Optimization:
- Lead the development and execution of the enterprise real estate strategy across the retail networks.
- Provide strategic oversight of the retail portfolio, including site selection, lease negotiations, renewals, relocations, and store closures across approximately 400 locations.
- Drive portfolio optimization initiatives to improve occupancy costs, operational efficiency, and long-term value.
- Evaluate market opportunities and provide recommendations related to retail footprint planning, expansion, consolidation, and investment decisions.
- Partner with Finance and Executive Leadership to support long-range planning, capital allocation, budgeting, and forecasting activities.
- Construction, Store Development & Retail Network Planning:
- Provide strategic leadership and oversight for all store development initiatives, including new store openings, relocations, renovations, and closures.
- Lead and develop the Construction & Store Development team, ensuring priorities, resources, and project execution align with business objectives.
- Establish governance, standards, and project delivery frameworks to support successful execution of construction and capital projects.
- Partner with Retail Operations and key stakeholders to evolve store formats, design standards, and customer experience initiatives.
- Oversee project portfolio performance, including budgets, timelines, risks, and overall delivery.
- Build and maintain relationships with external partners, including landlords, contractors, consultants, and developers.
- Facilities, Fleet & Operational Services:
- Provide strategic oversight of facilities operations across retail locations, corporate offices, and contact centre environments.
- Lead facilities maintenance programs, service delivery standards, and vendor performance to ensure safe, efficient, and well-maintained operations.
- Ensure compliance with health and safety requirements, lease obligations, and applicable building standards.
- Provide oversight of the company's fleet program, including vehicle acquisition, utilization, lifecycle planning, vendor management, and cost optimization.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on operational effectiveness, service quality, and cost management.
- Vendor, Financial & Team Leadership:
- Lead vendor sourcing strategies, contract negotiations, and strategic partnerships across real estate, facilities, construction, and fleet services.
- Establish vendor governance and performance management practices to ensure accountability, service excellence, and value creation.
- Develop and manage departmental operating and capital budgets while identifying opportunities for cost savings and operational efficiencies.
- Lead, coach, and develop a high-performing team, fostering collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement.
- Provide regular reporting, insights, and recommendations to senior leadership on portfolio performance, capital projects, operational initiatives, and strategic priorities.
What experience do you have?
- Minimum 5+ years of people leadership experience, with a demonstrated ability to lead, coach, and develop high-performing teams in a complex and evolving environment.
- Experience managing multi-site retail portfolios within a retail, franchise, or consumer-facing environment.
- Strong understanding of commercial leasing, site selection, lease negotiations, and landlord management.
- Experience leading construction, renovation, and store development programs.
- Knowledge of facilities management, maintenance operations, and vendor oversight.
- Demonstrated ability to manage operating budgets, capital expenditures, contracts, and real estate investments.
- Strong project management, negotiation, analytical, and stakeholder management skills.
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Real Estate, Construction Management, Engineering, Facilities Management, or a related discipline.
- Professional designations such as PMP, CPM, FMA, RPA, or related certifications are considered an asset.
We offer a Flexible Work Program that provides you the ability to work three days onsite per week, from our Mississauga office.
