Project Accountant

Our client is a well-established construction company with a strong reputation for quality projects and a people-first culture. They are looking for a detail-oriented and proactive Project Accountant to join their busy team and support the financial administration of multiple construction projects.

This is a hands-on role with a strong focus on accounts payable, project costing, billing, and financial reporting, working closely with Project Managers and the accounting team to ensure project financials are accurate and up to date.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage project-related accounts payable, including processing invoices, matching invoices to purchase orders and contracts, and resolving discrepancies.
• Maintain accurate project cost records and ensure expenses are properly coded and allocated.
• Support project billing, including progress billings, holdbacks, and related documentation.
• Prepare and maintain project financial reports, forecasts, and cost tracking.
• Monitor project budgets, commitments, actual costs, and variances, escalating discrepancies when required.
• Assist Project Managers with project financial reporting and month-end processes.
• Maintain accurate vendor and subcontractor records and documentation.
• Work closely with Project Managers, subcontractors, suppliers, and the accounting team to resolve financial and invoice-related issues.
• Ensure project documentation and financial records are accurate, complete, and up to date.

Qualifications

• 2+ years of experience in project accounting, construction accounting, or a similar role.
• Strong accounts payable experience, ideally within the construction industry.
• Good understanding of accounting principles and project costing.
• Experience working with subcontractor and vendor invoices.
• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
• Excellent communication and problem-solving abilities.
• Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced environment.
• Experience with construction accounting or project management software is an asset.
