Summit Search Group has partnered with UFA Co-operative Ltd. on the recruitment of an Agronomy Specialist.
UFA is one of Canada's largest and most dynamic member-owned co-operatives, with a long history of serving agricultural producers and rural communities across Western Canada. Reporting to the Manager, Technical Sales, the Agronomy Specialist will serve as a senior technical resource within UFA, providing advanced agronomic expertise to support sales, product programs and customer decision-making.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced agronomy professional who enjoys translating technical knowledge into practical recommendations. The successful candidate will work closely with sales representatives, customers, product teams and industry partners to support crop production decisions and help grow UFA's existing and proprietary product lines.
The Opportunity
The Agronomy Specialist will provide advanced technical support to UFA's sales network, with a particular focus on crop production and agronomy. As an in-house subject matter expert, this individual will help sales teams confidently position products and programs while ensuring recommendations are technically sound, practical and commercially relevant.
The role combines technical leadership, customer engagement, employee training and product support. The Agronomy Specialist will conduct customer visits, deliver presentations, interpret analysis reports and develop technical information for sales and marketing initiatives.
They will also provide mentorship to other Agronomy Specialists and maintain strong relationships with universities, industry associations, suppliers and other agricultural representatives.
Key Responsibilities
Technical and Agronomic Support
- Provide advanced technical support to sales representatives in crop production and agronomy.
- Translate agronomic findings and technical recommendations into practical business recommendations for internal teams and customers.
- Interpret analysis reports and develop appropriate product recommendations for key customers.
- Serve as the technical expert for UFA-branded and proprietary products.
- Support the successful introduction and growth of new and existing product lines.
Sales and Customer Support
- Partner with sales representatives to support customer conversations and strengthen the sales process.
- Participate in technical visits with key customers.
- Build customer loyalty by providing credible, practical and responsive agronomic support.
- Help sales teams communicate the technical and economic value of UFA products and programs.
- Contribute to sales performance within the assigned region, including proprietary product sales and margin results.
Training and Knowledge Development
- Develop and deliver technical and product training for UFA employees.
- Present to customers and staff at producer meetings, trade shows, corporate events and other industry forums.
- Prepare clear and relevant technical information to support sales and marketing.
- Provide senior-level technical guidance and mentorship to developing Agronomy Specialists.
- Help strengthen agronomic knowledge and confidence across UFA's sales network.
Product and Market Support
- Provide technical support to Marketing, Product Management and Sales Management.
- Evaluate the technical merits of new product and service opportunities.
- Assist with the interpretation and communication of research, product data and agronomic information.
- Support product positioning and the development of effective customer and sales messaging.
- Remain current on crop production practices, emerging technologies, research and industry developments.
Industry Relationships
- Develop and maintain relationships with universities, industry associations, suppliers and other agricultural representatives.
- Represent UFA as a knowledgeable and credible agronomic resource.
- Bring relevant research, market knowledge and industry insights back to UFA's sales and product teams.
Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science in Agriculture or an equivalent degree.
- Professional Agrologist designation, Certified Crop Adviser designation or an equivalent professional credential. Candidates must be eligible to obtain the CCA designation.
- More than 20 years of experience in crop production.
- More than 15 years of experience in agricultural sales, marketing, technical support or a combination of these areas.
- Advanced knowledge of agronomy and Western Canadian crop production.
- Demonstrated ability to mentor and support the development of other professionals.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to develop and deliver clear technical messages to customers, vendors, account managers and product strategy teams.
- Strong presentation and relationship-building capabilities.
- Proficiency with spreadsheets, word processing and presentation software.

The successful candidate will be a highly experienced agronomy professional who is respected for both technical knowledge and practical judgment. They will understand how to turn complex agronomic information into clear recommendations that are useful to producers and commercially meaningful to sales teams.
They will be comfortable working directly with customers, presenting to groups and supporting colleagues with varying levels of technical knowledge. Approachable and collaborative, they will enjoy sharing their expertise, mentoring others and helping UFA strengthen its technical capabilities across the organization.
