HSE Coordinator

Primary Location: Kitimat, BC

Employee Status: Full Time

Salary Range: $60k to $90k per annum

As a HSE Coordinator, you will reinforce our culture of safety as a core business value, ensuring it is embedded in every stage of the project. Key Responsibilities

Responsibilities and essential job functions include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Ensure compliance with process safety, SIMOPS, and oil & gas safety regulations across all operations.
  • Identify and manage hazards related to demolition, hazardous materials (e.g., hydrocarbons, silica), and other high-risk activities.
  • Implement environmental protection measures, including spill prevention, dust control, and waste management.
  • Lead risk assessments, HAZID/HAZOP studies, and develop emergency response plans for fire, explosion, and collapse scenarios.
  • Administer the Permit to Work system (confined space, hot work, isolation) and oversee contractor safety management.
  • Conduct audits, inspections, and incident investigations, ensuring effective root cause analysis and corrective actions.
  • Promote safety leadership, build a strong safety culture, and drive training and competency development programs.
  • Maintain clear communication and stakeholder engagement, utilizing Microsoft Office, MARAD, and other safety management tools.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 3 years' experience in HSEQ, construction, or oil & gas environments.
  • NCSO or equivalent safety training, with valid WHMIS, First Aid, and CSTC certifications.
  • Strong understanding of oil & gas safety regulations, process safety, and SIMOPS.
  • Proficient in risk assessment, HAZID/HAZOP facilitation, and emergency response planning (fire, explosion, collapse).
  • Knowledge of demolition hazards and hazardous materials management (e.g., hydrocarbons, silica).
  • Experienced in environmental protection, including spill prevention and dust control measures.
  • Skilled in Permit to Work systems (confined space, hot work, isolation) and contractor/subcontractor safety management.
  • Competent in auditing, inspection, incident investigation, and root cause analysis.
  • Demonstrated safety leadership, training delivery, and competency development capabilities.
  • Effective in communication and stakeholder engagement at all organizational levels.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and MARAD or equivalent safety management tools.
  • Ability to prepare policies, reports, risk logs, dashboards, and safety presentations.
  • Must be physically fit and able to work in marine and construction environments safely.
  • Ability to work flexible and rotational hours, including weekends.
  • Complete drug and alcohol testing if required
