Material Coordinator

As our Material Coordinator, you'll sit at the intersection of Engineering & Design and Operations, ensuring designs are practical, materials are organized, and execution teams have what they need to succeed. This is a hands-on role for someone who enjoys digging into drawings, solving problems, collaborating across departments, and making sure there are no surprises when designs move from concept to reality.

You'll help transform engineering intent into assets that can be fabricated, assembled, and deployed efficiently, bringing a real-world perspective that makes projects stronger from day one.

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Material Coordinator is the bridge between Sky Eye Measurement's Operations team and its Engineering & Design (E&D) group. Embedded directly within E&D, this role brings a practical, shop-floor perspective into the design process; ensuring that what gets drawn can be built efficiently, sourced reliably, and turned over to Operations without surprises.

This is a hands-on, cross-functional role for someone who understands how equipment actually gets fabricated, assembled, and deployed in the field, and who can translate that knowledge into better drawings, cleaner equipment lists, and a smoother handoff from design to execution. The Material Coordinator is equally comfortable red-lining a structural drawing, chasing a vendor for a datasheet, building part numbers in Inflow, and walking a junior designer through why a particular detail will not weld out in the shop.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Design Review & Practical Design Input

• Participate in formal design reviews at the 30%, 60%, and 90% completion intervals, representing the Operations and shop-execution perspective at each gate.

• Provide practical design guidance to the E&D team to support constructability, fabrication sequencing, assembly access, maintainability, and field serviceability.

• Identify design decisions that will create difficulty, rework, cost, or schedule risk in the shop, and propose workable alternatives early — while changes are still inexpensive.

• Review mechanical and structural drawings and issue clear, well-documented redlines back to the design team.

• Track redline comments through to resolution and confirm incorporation in subsequent revisions.

Materials, Equipment & Vendor Coordination

• Assist in developing Equipment Lists (EQLs) for projects and proposals, ensuring completeness, accuracy, and alignment with the current design.

• Communicate directly with vendors and suppliers to obtain equipment details, datasheets, dimensional and weight data, lead times, and budgetary pricing.

• Support proposal and estimating efforts with material takeoffs, equipment scope definition, and vendor-supplied information.

• Flag long-lead items, sourcing constraints, and availability risks to E&D and project stakeholders as early as possible.

• Promote standardization and reuse of proven components across projects to reduce cost, inventory complexity, and shop learning curve.

InFlow Inventory System Administration

• Create and maintain part numbers within Inflow, applying consistent naming, description, and categorization conventions.

• Generate and manage work orders in Inflow to support shop fabrication and assembly activities.

• Maintain data integrity within Inflow — correcting duplicate, incomplete, or obsolete records as they are identified.

• Coordinate with Operations, purchasing, and shop personnel to ensure Inflow accurately reflects real-world material status.

Drafting & Engineering Support

• Assist the E&D team with drafting tasks, including markups, detail drawings, revisions, and general drawing production support.

• Review, correct, and update CadWorx specifications and component descriptions that are out of date, incomplete, or inconsistent with current standards and available materials.

• Maintain CadWorx spec libraries so that designers are modelling with accurate, procurable components.

• Provide FEED (Front-End Engineering Design) support where appropriate and as time and workload permit, contributing constructability and materials input at the conceptual stage.

Design-to-Operations Turnover

• Serve as a key asset in ensuring the turnover from E&D to Operations is successful, complete, and well understood by the receiving team.

• Verify that drawings, equipment lists, bills of material, part numbers, and work orders are complete and consistent prior to release to the shop.

• Facilitate handoff meetings between design and shop personnel, walking through scope, sequence, and known risk areas.

• Capture lessons learned from shop execution and feed them back into the design process to drive continuous improvement.

Mentorship & Knowledge Transfer

• Build shared understanding between design and shop personnel, reducing friction and rework caused by differing assumptions.

• Contribute to internal standards, checklists, and best-practice documentation that make practical design knowledge repeatable rather than tribal.

General

• Work safely and in accordance with Sky Eye Measurement's health, safety, and environmental policies and procedures.

• Support other duties and initiatives as required to meet project and organizational objectives.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

Required

• Demonstrated hands-on experience in a fabrication shop, manufacturing, or field operations environment — with a working understanding of how equipment is built, assembled, and deployed.

• Ability to read, interpret, and mark up mechanical and structural drawings, including welding symbols, GD&T fundamentals, bills of material, and general arrangement drawings.

• Experience developing or maintaining equipment lists, bills of material, or material takeoffs.

• Direct vendor and supplier communication experience — sourcing technical information, quotes, and lead times.

• Working proficiency with CAD software and a willingness to perform drafting tasks in support of the design team.

• Experience with inventory or ERP systems and part-numbering conventions.

• Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple concurrent priorities across two teams.

• Clear written and verbal communication, with the credibility to give direct technical feedback to engineers and designers.

Preferred

• Journeyperson trade certification (welder, machinist, millwright, fabricator, pipefitter) or a technical diploma in mechanical, manufacturing, or drafting technology.

• Direct experience with inventory management software.

• Background in oil and gas, measurement, modular skid fabrication, or a related industrial sector.

• Prior experience mentoring, training, or leading in a shop or technical environment.

WORKING CONDITIONS

• Split environment between office/design workspace and the fabrication shop floor.

• Periods of elevated workload aligned to project milestones, proposal deadlines, and turnover schedules.
