What you will do:
Reporting to the Controller, responsibilities for this position include the following:
- Lead month-end and period-end close activities, including inventory and margin calculations, accruals, journal entries, and account analysis.
- Supervise, mentor, and review the work of a team of Junior Accountants.
- Prepare and review monthly account reconciliations, including bank, prepaid expense, and accounts receivable reconciliations.
- Prepare monthly tax filings and respond to tax audits and inquiries.
- Participate in and coordinate year-end audit activities, including the preparation of working papers and reconciliations.
- Manage fixed asset accounting, including capitalization, depreciation, disposals, and related reporting.
- Conduct internal audits, including physical inventory audits and compliance reviews to ensure adherence to company policies and procedures.
- Assist in the preparation of monthly and annual financial statements and supporting schedules.
- Analyze financial results and variances, providing meaningful insights and recommendations to management.
- Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow management activities.
- Develop and improve accounting processes, internal controls, and reporting procedures.
- Support system implementations, process improvement initiatives, and special projects as required.
- Partner with business leaders to provide financial guidance and support operational decision-making.
- Contribute to the Team in living the Corporate Values of Integrity, Community and Excellence.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

Who you are:
You are looking for a career in Finance and:
- 3-5 years previous accounting experience.
- University Degree or 2-year college diploma, ideally with an accounting major.
- Accounting Designation or enrolled in an Accounting Designation program is preferred.
- Proficient in a variety of computer applications, including MS Office Suite and strong knowledge of Excel.
- Experience with JDE or other ERP system considered an asset.
- Understanding of Federal and Provincial tax application in a retail & petroleum sales environment is an asset.
- Must work within strict confidentially guidelines.
- Ability to deal with a diverse and fast paced work schedule and to work with a sense of urgency.
- Must be able to work with minimum supervision.
- Strong organizational and interpersonal skills, with a positive attitude and the ability to work as part of a team
- Must be committed to a SAFE working environment.
