FIKO Projects Inc. is looking for a motivated and detail-oriented Estimator to join our team. This is a great opportunity for someone with a couple of years of hands-on estimating experience who is looking to grow their skills within a supportive, fast-paced environment.
As an Estimator, you will support our Chief Estimator and Project Management team with quantity take-offs, pricing, and bid preparation, helping ensure our projects are competitively priced and accurately scoped.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities
· Prepare detailed and accurate cost estimates for a variety of construction projects
· Review drawings, specifications, and project documents to assess scope and requirements
· Perform quantity take-offs and pricing of materials, labour, and equipment
· Collect, organize, and compare subcontractor/vendor quotes to build competitive bid submissions
· Coordinate with subcontractors and suppliers to gather pricing and clarify scope
· Work with Project Management to support budgets and schedules
· Maintain estimating databases, historical cost data, and pricing records
· Research, navigate, and identify public tenders through online tender platforms that align with the company's target projects, ensuring timely bid submissions
· Handle administrative tasks related to bid preparation and submission deadlines
Required Competencies & Experience
- 1-3 years of estimating or related construction experience; commercial construction experience preferred
- Understanding of construction methods, materials, and building codes
- Familiarity with reading and interpreting drawings and specifications
- Working knowledge of estimating or take-off software (e.g., Bluebeam, Procore)
- Strong math skills and comfort working with spreadsheets
- Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet tight deadlines
- A proactive, self-starter attitude and comfort working independently
- Strong background in quantity take-offs, budgeting, and cost analysis across multiple trades
- Proven experience coordinating with subcontractors, suppliers, and consultants during pre-construction
- Ability to build and maintain strong relationships with subcontractors, suppliers, and clients
- Experience with public tender platforms (e.g., MERX, Biddingo, Ontario Tenders Portal)
Education
- Postsecondary degree or diploma in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Quantity Surveying, or a related field considered an asset
- Gold Seal Certification in Estimating (CCA) or progress toward certification considered an asset
- Professional designations such as PQS (Professional Quantity Surveyor) or CEC (Certified Estimating Professional) considered an asset
Working Conditions
- Primarily an office-based role with occasional visits to project sites, pre-bid meetings, and walkthroughs as required
- Extensive computer work, including quantity take-offs, cost estimating, bid preparation, and reporting
- Regular communication and coordination with project managers, subcontractors, suppliers, consultants, and clients
