About You:

You're a self-starter that's extremely detail oriented. You will work alongside all engineering functions to make significant contributions to the electrical design of our capital hardware and instrument including (but not limited to) power electronics, control systems, sensors, high-speed communication, redundancy and network architecture. You're a strong communicator and team player, ready to coordinate with our cross-functional team to make sure we hit deliverables.

What you'll do:
  • Participates in the research and development of electronic components, printed circuit boards (PCBA), and electrical systems for the Company's medical devices and associated capital hardware.

  • Own full lifecycle design of mixed power, embedded computing and interconnect PCAs. Test designs at the PCA and system level using relevant test tools. Engage with vendors productively. Clearly document analyses, architectural decisions, and test results.

  • Takes part in planning, designing, development, testing, and design reviews of electronic and electrical systems for the Company's medical devices and associated capital hardware.

  • Participate in and lead design reviews and analyses (safety, reliability, failure, etc.) to develop robust architectures driven by simulation, analysis, and testing. Provide detailed architecture, schematic, and layout review to peers.

  • Influence planning, timelines, and goals for projects including new technology and process development.

  • Influence system architecture and participate in testing for medical safety and compliance per IEC60601-1 and related standards.

  • Provides feedback on electrical test requirements to the manufacturing test team as required.

  • Coordinates with firmware teams on correct electrical system implementation in software.

  • Utilizes test equipment to conduct experimental tests, evaluate electronic designs, and perform design verification.

  • Creates test reports to document work results.

  • Embraces the Design Control process by participating in design reviews and maintaining design history files.

  • Participates in evaluating the reliability of materials, properties and techniques used in production.

  • Mentor and guide engineers with varying levels of experience. Effectively collaborate with peers beyond electrical engineering.

What you'll need:
  • Bachelor's degree with 10+ years, Masters with 8+ years, or other equivalent experience in electrical engineering or a related field.

  • Proficient in Altium Designer (or similar) for schematic capture and PCB layout.

  • Knowledgeable on design for power integrity, signal integrity, fault tolerance, and EMC.

  • Strong design experience with embedded systems, sensors, serial communication, and analog and digital electrical systems.

  • Experience designing power distribution systems, current limiting, power regulation, fusing, FET selection, PWM frequency trade-offs, gate slew rate trade-offs, etc.

  • Experience designing and bringing hardware to market, including undergoing compliance testing.

  • Proficient in using common electrical test equipment, e.g., DMM, oscilloscope, function generator, DC power supply.

  • Knowledge of Good Documentation Practices (GDP).

Bonus points for:
  • Background in working in Optics, Robotics and/or Medical Device industry.

  • Experience working on systems containing various rigid & flexible PCAs connected with dynamic cabling (e.g. clock spring cabling, flex boards & FFCs, slip rings, etc.).

  • Capable of architecting systems containing brushless DC motors.

  • Expertise in designing safety-critical and fail-safe systems, including isolation diagrams.

The salary range for this position is $110,000-$140,000 annually. Compensation will be determined based on the individual's demonstrated experience, education, training, relevant certifications or licensure, and other applicable business and organizational factors.
