Fort McMurray, Alberta | Full-Time, Long-Term
Heavy Equipment Operation / Earthworks | Experienced | 14 and 7 Rotation
You will run hydraulic excavators on earthworks, site development, and reclamation work in the Fort McMurray region. This is steady, year-round work with a defined rotation and a long-term project schedule, not a short-term call out.What You'll Do
- Operate hydraulic excavators for bulk excavation, trenching, ditching, sloping, and site preparation
- Load haul trucks and place material to grade using survey stakes or GPS machine control
- Backfill, shape, and finish ditches, ponds, berms, and access roads
- Support overburden removal, tailings, pipeline, and reclamation scopes as assigned
- Complete daily pre-trip and post-trip inspections, log defects, and report deficiencies immediately
- Perform operator level maintenance including greasing, fluid checks, and cleaning
- Communicate by radio with spotters, ground crews, and haul truck operators
- Participate in toolbox talks, hazard assessments, and field level risk assessments
- Assist with equipment moves and site setup as directed by the foreman
- Minimum 3 years excavator experience in mining, heavy civil, or oilfield construction
- Valid Class 5 driver's licence and reliable transportation
- CSTS-2020 or CSTS-09 and Standard First Aid, or willingness to obtain before start
- Ability to work a 14 days on, 7 days off rotation on 12 hour shifts
- Ability to pass a pre-access drug and alcohol test
- Comfortable working outdoors in all Alberta weather conditions
- Strong safety record and willingness to follow all site specific procedures
- Experience on GPS or machine control equipped excavators (Trimble, Topcon)
- Previous oil sands site experience north of Fort McMurray
- Common Safety Orientation (CSO) and regional site orientations already in place
- H2S Alive, Confined Space Entry, and Ground Disturbance Level 2
- Experience with overburden removal, tailings, or reclamation scopes
- Additional tickets on dozer, loader, or rock truck
- Active industrial and mine site environment with continuous heavy equipment traffic
- Outdoor work in extreme cold, heat, dust, and variable ground conditions
- Full personal protective equipment required at all times, including fire retardant clothing
- Site access requires pre-access testing and site specific orientation
