Program: Homelessness and Housing Help Hub (H4)
Program Description:
H4 is a comprehensive program providing multi-agency wrap-around supports and coordinated access to services for individuals experiencing homelessness. It serves as a central point of access into homelessness services while providing basic needs support, housing intake and assessment services, community engagement initiatives, and connections to clinical support from local partner agencies.

Work Week:
4:30 PM - 12:30 AM, Saturdays and Sundays
This role requires flexibility in working weekdays, weekends and holidays as required by the program.
Location: 400 Wyandotte St. E., Windsor ON
Rate of Pay:
$23.82 probationary wage, with increases up to $25.82 after successful completion of probationary period. A $2/hour premium will be applied for hours worked between 6 PM and 6 AM.
Job Summary:
Under the direction of the Site Supervisor(s), assisting with the effective and efficient implementation of the City of Windsor's Homelessness and Housing Help Hub Program within established program requirements and agency policies.

Client Support Worker (“CSW”) Job Specifications

Job Description:
The Client Support Worker (CSW) provides continuous indoor and outdoor program monitoring to ensure the safety and security of both visitors and participants at the H4 program, while supporting key program functions. This involves routine perimeter walks and assessing participants and guests entering the program to identify barriers, needs, or safety concerns. This role involves facilitating access to services and ensuring connection with the appropriate resources within the program. The CSW will also provide support to various areas within the program, monitoring transitions between spaces and ensuring smooth operations.
The CSW also play a key role in welcoming new participants, building rapport, support with the provision of basic needs services including food and clothing, and providing trauma-informed intervention during incidents or crisis in the program.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities Include:

Supporting Safety Within Program Functions

  • Regular reporting of perimeter walks around the building and community; identifying and logging concerns.
  • Managing outdoor patio spaces; ensuring bike security and mediating disputes as appropriate;
  • Responding collaboratively with the on-site staff to emergency situations such as medical incidents or escalated behaviour;
  • Ensuring bathrooms and shower spaces are safe;
  • Restocking supplies and maintaining program inventory, as needed.


Building Client Rapport

  • Connect with participants entering the program to effectively support with orienting, directing or encouraging participants to access supports;
  • Build ongoing relationships with new and regular participants attending the program to better understand individual behavioural baselines by name;
  • Actively participate in de-escalation as able or needed.


Program Operations and Activities

  • Assisting with day-to-day operations of the program including break coverage, sorting donations, and sanitizing high touch areas;
  • Receiving and refilling program inventory and supplies;
  • Completing other duties as required.


Education & Skills:
Post-secondary education completed at an Accredited Canadian University with a minimum of Bachelor Degree in Social Work or Social Science, or relevant College Diploma preferred OR 1-2 years of recent and relevant experience working with vulnerable / low-income / marginalized individuals.

Work Experience:
Demonstrated ability to work independently and within a team environment while in a fast-paced setting; preferably with experience supporting vulnerable individuals with varied emotional, social, and behavioural difficulties.
Experience / knowledge of Windows, Microsoft Software, Internet, and standard office equipment is preferred.


Knowledge:
Experience and knowledge working with individuals experiencing chronic homelessness or other vulnerable / marginalized populations from a person-centered perspective.
Recent and relevant working knowledge of the local Emergency Shelter system, Social Services, Community Agencies in Windsor-Essex preferred.
Ability to speak other languages an asset.

Certifications and Other Requirements:
Criminal Reference and Vulnerable Sector Checks required.
Updated CPR and First Aid Certification required.
Non-violent Crisis Intervention (NVCI), Mental Health First Aid, and Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST) certification an asset.
Must have reliable and effective mode of transportation.

Spoken and Written Communications: Able to clearly present information verbally in person and over the phone; in writing and to document activities; to read and interpret written information; comprehend information delivered orally.
Professional Engagement: Able to communicate with clients, partners, and staff professionally. Awareness and sensitivity to clients experiencing homelessness as well as the needs of the vulnerable sector an asset.
Critical Problem Solving: Able to assess complex situations and develop effective, practical solutions within each context. Capable of making sound decisions under pressure, prioritizing tasks, and employing critical thinking to navigate immediate challenges.
Safety: Demonstrates skill around personal safety, de-escalation of clients and ability to advocate for responsible harassment free behaviour.
Relevant Work Environment:
The workweek will be a minimum of 37.5 hours, including availability and flexibility for evening, weekend, and statutory holiday work as required.
The role may involve physical activities such as walking between different areas of the facility, standing, bending, lifting materials up to a certain weight limit, sitting at a computer workstation for extended periods, and other tasks that require mobility within the facility.
