MECHANICAL SYSTEMS & COOLING COMMISSIONING LEAD
We are seeking a Mechanical Systems & Cooling Commissioning Lead to own commissioning of all mechanical and cooling systems on a large mission-critical infrastructure project. The scope covers chillers, CDUs, pumps, CRAHs, CRACs, cooling towers, heat exchangers, and liquid cooling infrastructure. This is a senior staff role within a newly formed commissioning team.
This position is at the site in Regina, Saskatchewan. 14 days on / 7 days off rotation.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and execute L2 and L3 mechanical tests including installation verification, flushing and cleaning, pressure and leak testing, system startups, and initial functional checks
- Lead mock-run of L4 functional performance tests for cooling systems covering flow rates, delta-T performance, redundancy behavior at N+1, component failover, load ramping, and transient behavior under real operating conditions
- Validate mechanical modules and skids fabricated off-site once installed on site, confirming performance under real load profiles
- Coordinate with the controls and BMS lead to ensure mechanical sequences of operation are implemented correctly and are fully testable with proper alarms and trend logging in place
- Validate sequences of operation by confirming they perform as designed under test conditions rather than writing new ones from scratch
- Contribute to integrated systems test scenarios involving cooling including power events with cooling impact, partial plant failures, and high-density thermal ramp scenarios
- Document all tests, issues, and resolutions consistently in partnership with the commissioning program engineer
- Provide mechanical commissioning input to operations teams to support a clean handover and support future seasonal testing requirements
What We Are Looking For
- Strong background in mission-critical or industrial mechanical and cooling systems including central plant and room-level cooling infrastructure
- Proven experience leading mechanical commissioning, TAB/FPT, or performance validation on large MEP or industrial projects
- Ability to understand and constructively challenge mechanical sequences of operation and system designs with a focus on testability and operational resilience
- Comfortable diagnosing problems during live tests and driving corrective actions across design, vendor, and construction teams in real time
- Clear communication and documentation skills with the ability to explain mechanical system behavior and risk to non-mechanical stakeholders
Preferred Qualifications
- 7+ years in mechanical commissioning, TAB/FPT, or operations for data centres, industrial facilities, or other mission-critical environments
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent technical experience
- Familiarity with ASHRAE commissioning guidance and large-facility mechanical commissioning requirements
- Experience with commissioning platforms such as CxAlloy, Procore, or Facility Grid
- Relevant certifications such as CxA, BCxP, TAB/NEBB, or P.Eng are an asset
- Liquid cooling system experience is preferred but not required as candidates with this background are limited in Canada
- Full mechanical commissioning background is preferred over TAB or FPT experience alone
- This role validates sequences of operation rather than writing them
- Industrial mechanical commissioning experience is welcomed
