Senior Manager, Interconnection

Location: Toronto, Ontario

About the Opportunity

An established renewable energy company is seeking a Senior Manager, Interconnection to lead grid interconnection and high-voltage workstreams across a portfolio of utility-scale energy projects.

The initial focus will be on utility-scale renewable energy projects in Ontario, with opportunities to support additional projects across Canada as the company continues to grow.

Reporting to senior engineering leadership, this individual will serve as the internal subject matter expert for transmission interconnection, substations, and high-voltage systems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead interconnection activities from initial studies and approvals through engineering, procurement, construction, energization, and commissioning.
  • Manage coordination with utilities, independent system operators, engineering consultants, EPC contractors, high-voltage subcontractors, and equipment suppliers.
  • Oversee connection applications, technical submissions, assessments, agreements, commercial requirements, and commissioning activities.
  • Review and evaluate technical work prepared by utilities, consultants, contractors, and engineers of record.
  • Manage interfaces between generation facilities, substations, transmission infrastructure, grid operators, and utilities.
  • Support procurement of major high-voltage equipment, including power transformers, breakers, switchgear, and protection systems.
  • Assist with the selection and management of high-voltage EPC contractors, substation contractors, transmission contractors, and specialty consultants.
  • Coordinate generation and high-voltage construction scopes, including sequencing, testing, energization, and commissioning.
  • Identify and mitigate technical, commercial, schedule, and regulatory risks related to grid interconnection.
  • Provide broader electrical engineering and technical support to project teams and senior leadership.

Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate has led or played a significant role in connecting transmission-level generation, energy storage, or major electrical load projects to the grid.

Experience with the Ontario transmission system is highly preferred, particularly working with electric utilities and system operators.

Relevant backgrounds include:

  • Utility-scale solar, wind, or battery energy storage
  • Gas-fired power generation
  • Data centers or other large electrical load facilities
  • Transmission or substation infrastructure
  • High-voltage EPC, utility, engineering consulting, or owner-side project delivery

Direct renewable energy experience is beneficial but not required. The primary focus is strong transmission-level interconnection expertise, high-voltage technical knowledge, and experience managing complex utility and contractor interfaces.

Qualifications

  • Typically 5+ years of relevant experience in interconnection, transmission, substations, power systems, or high-voltage project delivery.
  • Candidates with substantially more experience are encouraged to apply.
  • Exceptional candidates with fewer years of experience may also be considered.
  • Strong understanding of high-voltage AC systems, substations, transmission networks, protection systems, and grid interconnection.
  • Experience supporting projects through one or more phases including studies, agreements, design, procurement, construction, energization, or commissioning.
  • Ability to independently evaluate technical issues and collaborate effectively with utilities, system operators, consultants, contractors, and engineering teams.
  • Excellent project management, communication, problem-solving, and stakeholder management skills.

Preferred Experience

  • Experience connecting projects to the Ontario transmission grid.
  • Experience working with electric utilities and system operators.
  • Experience with transmission voltages such as 115 kV or 230 kV.
  • Familiarity with system impact studies, connection studies, cost recovery agreements, or similar interconnection processes.
  • Owner-side management of interconnection or high-voltage project delivery.
  • Experience managing separate generation and high-voltage EPC or construction scopes.
  • Experience procuring transformers, breakers, switchgear, protection equipment, or complete substation packages.
  • Degree in Electrical Engineering or another engineering discipline with significant electrical power experience.

Location & Work Structure

This is a permanent, full-time position based in the Greater Toronto Area. The successful candidate will work closely with engineering and project leadership, and periodic travel will be required.

Compensation

Competitive compensation package with a base salary generally in the range of C$140,000–C$160,000, plus performance-based bonus.

Compensation will ultimately be based on experience, technical expertise, and overall qualifications.

Why Join

  • Lead grid interconnection strategy for a growing portfolio of utility-scale energy projects.
  • Play a key role in delivering major energy infrastructure projects across Canada.
  • Work closely with senior leadership and influence project execution from development through commissioning.
  • Join a collaborative team where your technical expertise will have a direct impact on project success.
