About the RoleWe are seeking a dependable Maintenance Labourer to support preventative floor drain maintenance throughout university residence buildings. This role focuses on cleaning and maintaining floor drains to help ensure they remain clean, operational, and safe for building occupants.The successful candidate will be comfortable performing physical work, following health and safety procedures, and working independently while maintaining a high standard of workmanship.
Key Responsibilities
- Remove floor drain covers using basic hand tools
- Remove debris, dirt, and buildup from floor drains
- Clean drain interiors using brushes and approved cleaning tools
- Apply client-supplied drain cleaning products
- Reinstall drain covers securely upon completion
- Maintain clean and safe work areas throughout the project
- Wear required PPE and follow all health and safety procedures
- Report damaged drains, maintenance concerns, or safety hazards to the site supervisor
- Carry out all assigned duties safely, professionally, and efficiently
- Perform other related duties as assigned
- Previous experience in general labour, building maintenance, custodial, or janitorial roles is considered an asset
- Ability to safely use basic hand tools
- Comfortable performing physically demanding work, including lifting up to 50 lbs
- Comfortable working with cleaning products while wearing required PPE
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- Good communication skills (English – verbal)
- Reliable, punctual, and safety conscious
- Indoor work within university residence buildings
- Physically demanding work including standing, walking, bending, kneeling, and lifting throughout the day
- Exposure to cleaning products and maintenance materials
- Fast-paced project with established timelines
- PPE must be worn at all times while performing assigned duties

This role is located in downtown Toronto at university residence buildings (160 Mutual St., 240 Jarvis St., and 228 Church St.). The shift is Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM.
The pay is $23.00 per hour plus 4% vacation pay.
It is a full-time contract lasting approximately 1 week (or less) with a start date of August 5, 2026.
You will support preventative floor drain maintenance, remove drain covers, remove debris, clean drain interiors, apply cleaning products, reinstall covers, and maintain a clean, safe work area.
Previous experience in general labour, building maintenance, custodial, or janitorial roles is considered an asset.
You must be comfortable performing physically demanding work, lifting up to 50 lbs, using basic hand tools, wearing PPE, and following health and safety procedures.
