Business Development Representative

$65 - 80,000 + car allowance, commission, company paid benefits

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain a pipeline of prospective customers through networking, referrals, cold outreach, and lead generation.
  • Identify, qualify, and pursue new business opportunities to achieve revenue and gross margin objectives.
  • Develop and execute strategic sales plans to grow market share and diversify the customer portfolio.
  • Conduct market research to identify emerging industries, new territories, and business opportunities.
  • Build long-term relationships with prospective and existing customers by understanding their supply chain needs and recommending tailored logistics solutions.
  • Prepare customer presentations, proposals, pricing quotations, and competitive bids.
  • Negotiate pricing, contracts, and service agreements while protecting company profitability.
  • Successfully close new business opportunities and transition customers through the onboarding process.
  • Develop customer-specific Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and collaborate with Operations to ensure seamless implementation.
  • Identify opportunities to expand existing customer accounts by introducing additional lanes, transportation modes, warehousing, or value-added logistics services.
  • Collaborate with Operations, Pricing, and Customer Service teams to deliver exceptional customer experiences.
  • Monitor market conditions, competitor activity, and transportation trends to identify growth opportunities.
  • Maintain accurate sales forecasts, CRM records, pipeline activity, and weekly/monthly sales reports.
  • Achieve assigned sales, revenue, and profitability targets while maintaining high levels of customer satisfaction.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives that enhance operational efficiency, service quality, and overall profitability.
  • Contribute to the growth and development of the sales organization through collaboration, coaching, and sharing industry best practices.

Qualifications

  • College diploma or university degree in Business, Supply Chain, Logistics, Sales, or a related field is considered an asset.
  • Minimum 5 years of transportation or logistics sales experience.
  • Minimum 3 years of business development experience within a 3PL, freight brokerage, freight forwarding, or logistics environment.
  • Demonstrated success acquiring new customers and consistently exceeding sales targets.
  • Strong understanding of transportation pricing, gross margin, and profitability.
  • Knowledge of freight brokerage, LTL, FTL, cross-border transportation, warehousing, freight forwarding, and integrated logistics solutions.
  • Excellent negotiation, presentation, and relationship-building skills.
  • Strong prospecting, networking, and consultative selling abilities.
  • Ability to analyze market trends and identify strategic growth opportunities.
  • Experience responding to RFQs, RFPs, and contract negotiations is preferred.
  • Proficiency with CRM systems and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Self-motivated, highly organized, and results-oriented with the ability to work independently.
