Lighting Controls Coordinator - Smart Building Solutions

Job Summary

The Lighting Controls Coordinator will be responsible for designing, commissioning, implementing, and maintaining intelligent lighting control systems for industrial, commercial, and institutional (ICI) applications. Serving as a technical subject matter expert, you will work closely with architects, engineers, electrical contractors, and manufacturers to ensure that lighting networks meet energy compliance standards and client needs.

Duties and Responsibilities

• System Design & Commissioning: Independently design, commission, and maintain advanced lighting power and control systems, low-voltage data network topologies, and related IT infrastructure.
• Collaboration & Liaison: Work closely with architects, engineers, and electrical subcontractors to ensure seamless hardware installation and alignment with the project design intent.
• Technical Calculations: Perform necessary engineering and load calculations to ensure systems meet strict requirements for capacity, energy efficiency compliance, and safety.
• Field Troubleshooting: Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair advanced lighting control systems, addressing communication issues across wireless mesh or wired networks.
• Technical Support: Provide expert level 2 technical support and system training to internal field crews, and project team colleagues.
• Construction Administration: Independently perform construction administration and coordination tasks, including site field reviews, documenting health and safety initiatives, reviewing engineering drawings, and preparing submittals, site instructions, and change directives.
• Project Financials: Generate, track, and monitor critical project financials, including vendor quotations, material purchase orders (POs), project invoices, and overall project budgets.
• Client Relations: Attend client-facing meetings and maintain professional communication across all internal and external project stakeholders.
• Continuous Learning: Stay up-to-date with emerging energy efficiency trends, smart building technical standards, and provincial code updates.

Experience Required

• Years of Experience: Minimum of 3+ years of direct experience in designing, programming, and system commissioning of commercial lighting control networks.
• Technical Frameworks: Strong, comprehensive knowledge of intelligent lighting control components, network relays, sensors, and protocols
• Manufacturer Ecosystems: Direct hands-on experience configuring and working with major manufacturer systems and platforms (e.g., Acuity Brands nLight, Lutron Vive/Quantum, Wattstopper, Encelium, etc.).
• Blueprint Literacy: Advanced proficiency reading and interpreting complex electrical blueprints, single-line diagrams, circuit schematics, and architectural specifications.
• IT Foundations: Practical experience with IT networking concepts, IP addressing, routing, and low-voltage network infrastructure.

• Education: Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Technology, or a related technical field.
