About us:
Spring Financial is a Canadian financial technology company focused on making every day financial services simpler, faster, and more accessible.
We build technology that helps Canadians build credit, save money, and access lending products without unnecessary friction. Our platforms allow customers to apply and manage their finances online, by text, or over the phone, making the experience convenient and flexible.
Since launching in 2014, Spring has grown into one of Canada's largest fintechs, with over 250,000+ product originations across credit-building products, personal lending, and mortgage solutions. We're a fast-growing, product-driven team that values practical solutions, strong execution, and thoughtful collaboration. We give people ownership, trust them to make decisions, and focus on building systems that scale reliably.
If you're interested in working on real-world fintech platforms used by hundreds of thousands of Canadians, Spring offers the opportunity to make a tangible impact through well-built technology.
NOTE: This is a full-time, permanent, hybrid position in downtown Vancouver. 3 set days in the office and 2 WFH.
About the role:
Spring Financial is a Canadian Fintech on a mission to improve the financial health of everyday Canadians. We are building the products, the platform, and now the AI-native operating model that will let us do it at a scale few lenders can match. Spring is rebuilding how a modern lender runs, and we are building it AI-native from the ground up. We are looking for a Senior Platform Engineering Manager to lead that transformation. This is not a role where you keep the lights on. It is a role where you decide what the lights are, and you get to build an operating model that most companies are still only talking about.
You will lead the team that owns everything Spring runs on, from the product platform that ships to millions of dollars in loans, to the identity, networks, and systems every Spring employee depends on to do their work. Your mandate is to make all of it AI-native: a platform operated by engineers and AI agents working together, where agents provision infrastructure, catch and fix problems, and help employees directly, all under governance you design. Few engineering leaders get a canvas this large or a mandate this clear.
If you are the kind of leader who sees AI as a step-change in how infrastructure and IT get built and run, and you want the authority and the team to prove it at scale, this is your opportunity to lead from the front.
Job Description:
As a Senior Platform Engineering Manager at Spring, you lead the combined platform and systems engineering function. You own both the product platform that ships to customers and the corporate technology environment employees depend on. Your reports include both individual contributors and managers, among them the Systems Engineering Manager who runs corporate IT and the help desk. You connect team-level execution to company priorities and scale delivery through clarity, culture, and mechanisms rather than through your own hands on the keyboard.
You are responsible for making Platform Engineering AI-native, and this is a build mandate, not a tooling rollout. You set the strategy for a platform operated by a blend of engineers and AI agents. You direct investment toward agents that provision infrastructure, detect and remediate failures, and resolve employee support requests end to end, and you hold the line on the governance that makes that safe. Under your ownership, every agent has a governed identity, least-privilege access, and a full audit trail, and the same identity and access discipline your systems engineering team applies to employees extends to agents. You measure the function on toil removed and on how far the team moves from operating systems by hand toward designing systems and agents that operate themselves.
You foster a strong culture of reliability, observability, and security across all your surfaces. You hold a high bar for CI/CD pipeline health, deployment safety, and monitoring coverage across services. You help teams define and maintain SLOs, drive down toil, invest in automated remediation, and improve change management. You partner with Security, People Operations, Finance, and Facilities to reduce systemic risk and adopt secure-by-default design. When incidents happen, whether a production outage, a company-wide email failure, or a mass laptop event, you make sure root causes are understood, reviews are honest, and corrective actions land.
You think across the whole estate and across team boundaries. You understand how cloud accounts, deployment systems, employee and workload identity, networks, endpoints, SaaS administration, hardware, and help desk operations fit together, and you use that context to shape roadmaps, surface systemic risk early, and drive coordination before problems become incidents. You guide architecture and configuration decisions toward solutions that are simple, secure by default, automated, and operationally sound, whether the system runs in production, on an employee laptop, or in an agent execution path.
You are accountable for the success of every surface your teams own, from the cloud platform and reliability practices engineering depends on, to the identity systems, endpoints, networks, and productivity tools every employee uses, to the help desk experience that determines how employees feel about all of it. You set the strategic direction for employee support, including service levels, tooling, and the agentic support path, and you make sure support metrics drive durable upstream fixes rather than dashboards that look good.
You are a trusted partner to engineering, product, and business stakeholders, and you develop the leaders under you. You coach managers and senior engineers, contribute to hiring and leveling, and build a resilient, mission-aligned organization.
What You'll Do:
- Lead the combined platform and systems engineering function, managing both engineers and managers, including the Systems Engineering Manager who owns corporate IT and the help desk.
- Own the AI-native strategy: direct investment in AI agents for provisioning, incident remediation, and employee support, and hold the governance that makes them safe.
- Own the reliability, security, and cost of both the product platform and the corporate technology environment, including CI/CD pipeline health, deployment safety, and monitoring coverage.
- Define and evolve platform, reliability, and corporate-technology strategy with cross-functional stakeholders.
- Drive execution through mechanisms such as SLOs, change management, access reviews, vendor management, hardware refresh cadence, and on-call practices.
- Ensure engineering excellence through architecture reviews, code and configuration reviews, and well-maintained operational and support playbooks.
- Extend identity, least-privilege access, and audit discipline across employees, workloads, and agents.
- Set strategic direction for the help desk, including the agentic support path, service levels, tooling, and the engineering relationship behind it.
- Mentor managers and senior engineers, and own succession planning across the function.
- Contribute to org-level initiatives such as hiring strategy, leveling calibration, vendor consolidation, and cross-team models.
What we're looking for:
Requirements
- High-Velocity Execution: Proven ability to thrive in an intensely fast-paced environment. You are highly driven, adaptable, and completely willing and able to match the intensive working hours of Senior Leadership to drive the product's success.
- Product & Program Leadership: Demonstrated ability to manage product roadmaps, lead cross-functional initiatives, run quarterly planning cycles, and translate ambiguity into structured outcomes.
- Domain Aptitude: Strong decision-making and prioritization skills, ideally with an understanding of consumer finance, alternative lending, or fintech products.
- Technical Fluency: Understanding of technical systems and product architecture at a conceptual level. You should be able to explain how a feature delivers value and how it's technically implemented.
- AI Curiosity: Strong initiative around using AI tools to support product discovery, customer understanding, and workflow acceleration.
What We Will Give You:
- Competitive annual salary ranging from $110,000 to $125,000, reflective of experience and impact.
- Comprehensive benefits package, including extended health, dental, and vision coverage — with 100% of monthly premiums covered by the Spring.
- GRSP matching program to support your long-term financial goals.
- A modern, collaborative workspace in the heart of downtown Vancouver.
- Ongoing career growth opportunities
