Who You Are

The Product Designer II plays a crucial role in the product development process, working closely with cross-functional teams to bring innovative ideas to life. The Product Designer II is responsible for conceptualizing, designing and implementing product solutions which meet consumer needs during the product development process. The Product Designer II is responsible for creating drawings, models, prototypes, bills of materials and fully functional products for commercialization.

What You'll Do
  • Identify opportunities for new products and aid the creation of the business case.
  • Analyze how a new product design ties in with the strategic focus on market needs and consumer preferences.
  • Determine design requirements based on briefs from internal teams and external partners.
  • Employ Feature-Driven Development (FDD) and Agile methodologies to meet target milestones.
  • Collaborate with Product Strategy team to understand unique product requirements, goals, and design preferences.
  • Conduct initial consultations and gather necessary information to create design briefs.
  • Generate creative and innovative design concepts which align with consumer needs and project objectives. Present design proposals and ideas to stakeholders for feedback and approval.
  • Lead and participate in design charrettes and critiques for collaborative design development.
  • Utilize industry-standard design tools and software to create detailed product designs, including sketches, 2D/3D development and technical drawings. Ensure designs meet quality, functionality, ergonomics and manufacturing standards while considering factors such as user experience, aesthetics, codes and compliances and acoustics.
  • Design for Manufacturing (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA); designing parts, components and products for ease of manufacturing by simplifying, optimizing and refining the product design.
  • Design for the Environment (DFE); designing for sustainability, considering the product life cycle
  • Oversee and participate in the development of prototypes and mock-ups to test and validate design concepts and collaborate with engineering, production and installation teams to refine designs based on feedback.
  • Research and recommend appropriate materials and manufacturing processes which align with the product pricing strategy, project budget and requirements.
  • Create comprehensive design documentation, including specifications, assembly instructions, installation instructions and bill of materials to guide the manufacturing process.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including engineers, production, installers and product managers, to ensure seamless project execution from concept to production.
  • Be a Subject Matter Expert (SME) for internal and external stakeholder teams, including solution support, ICE developers, order engineering, marketing and communications, project management and construction partners.
  • Maintain product lines post-launch to consumers through revision, refinement and continuous improvement.
  • Stay up-to-date with industry trends, emerging technologies, and design best practices to continuously improve design processes and outcomes.
What You'll BringRequired Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree, diploma or professional equivalent in Industrial Design, Product Design, Mechanical Design, Engineering, or a related design discipline field.
  • Proven experience (5+ years) as a Product Designer, preferably in a manufacturing or industrial design setting or progressive design experience in a product development or engineering and manufacturing environment.
  • Experience in the design and manufacturing of products a must.
  • Experience in interior construction is a strong asset.
  • Proficiency in design in 3D solid modeling software such as Inventor, Creo Elements Direct, Solid Designer, SolidWorks, Pro-E, AutoCAD 3D, or similar tools.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, Adobe Creative Suite, MS Office.
  • In depth understanding of design principles, user-centered design, and human factors engineering.
  • Advanced level knowledge of materials, manufacturing processes, and rapid prototyping techniques, with an ability to design for manufacturability,
  • Advanced level knowledge of the designing of products for a wide range of materials and manufacturing processes; sheet metal, machined parts, aluminum and plastic extrusions, injection molded and die casted parts.
  • Knowledge of current architectural and construction practices.
  • Passion for innovation, emerging technologies, and staying current with industry trends.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
