This position is ideal for an experienced estimator who thrives in collaborative environments and wants to work on large, complex, and high-impact Institutional, Commercial, and Industrial (ICI) projects within an award-winning, people-first culture.Key Responsibilities:
- Strategy & Planning: Develop and execute competitive bid and pursuit strategies that support successful project acquisition.
- Cost Estimation: Prepare and manage comprehensive cost estimates across all project phases, from early feasibility and conceptual stages through to tender and guaranteed maximum pricing.
- Workshops & Alignment: Lead collaborative estimating and cost-planning workshops to align client budgets with project goals, enabling transparent decision-making.
- Take-offs & Modeling: Complete detailed material, labor, equipment, and subcontractor take-offs. Establish and maintain unit rates, labor productivity metrics, escalation models, and contingency strategies.
- Procurement & Value Engineering: Solicit, analyze, and negotiate subcontractor and supplier pricing; lead strategic value engineering and cost-optimization exercises.
- Operational Partnership: Partner with operations and project teams during preconstruction to provide critical constructability, sequencing, and site logistics input.
- Variance Analysis: Track estimated versus actual costs, analyze variances, and capture lessons learned to drive continuous improvement.
- Network Building: Build and sustain strong, trust-based relationships with subcontractors, engineering consultants, suppliers, and clients.
- Experience: 15+ years of experience in commercial / ICI construction estimating, with a minimum of 5 years estimating directly for a general contractor (rather than a self-performing developer environment).
- Sector Exposure: Proven track record estimating across diverse ICI sectors, including commercial, institutional, healthcare, or recreational facilities.
- Education: Post-secondary diploma or degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a closely related discipline.
- Technical Skills: Advanced proficiency in Excel alongside industry-standard estimating, take-off, and cost-management software. Strong ability to interpret complex architectural drawings and technical specifications.
- Presentation Skills: Proven experience presenting and defending complex cost models to diverse stakeholder groups and clients.
- Strong cost modeling, pricing strategy, and proactive risk analysis skills.
- Excellent communication skills with the confidence to influence and guide crucial cost-related decisions.
- Exceptional organizational skills to effectively manage multiple concurrent project pursuits in a fast-paced environment.
