Financial Controller
We are seeking a driven Financial Controller that oversees the company's accounting and financial operations, ensuring accurate financial reporting, regulatory compliance, and effective internal controls. This role is responsible for the full accounting cycle, budgeting, forecasting, payroll, tax reporting, and financial analysis while providing strategic financial guidance to support business performance. The position also leads the finance team and drives continuous improvement across financial processes. What You'll Do:
Financial Reporting & Accounting Operations:
- Oversee the full accounting cycle, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger, and month-end and year-end close processes.
- Ensure the accurate and timely preparation of financial statements, management reports, and variance analyses in accordance with Company Accounting Policies.
- Maintain the integrity of the general ledger, including reviewing and approving balance sheet reconciliations and ensuring all accounts are properly reconciled and supported.
- Oversee financial data management to ensure the accuracy of the Profit & Loss Statement, Balance Sheet, and supporting financial records.
- Prepare financial analyses and reporting to support operational and executive decision-making.
Financial Planning & Business Support:
- Support the annual budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow planning processes.
- Analyze financial performance, identify trends, risks, and opportunities, and provide recommendations to improve profitability and operational efficiency.
- Partner with cross-functional teams to improve financial understanding and support business objectives.
- Assist with strategic initiatives, cost optimization efforts, and financial evaluations of business opportunities.
Accounts Receivable, Payable, & Inventory Management:
- Manage accounts payable and receivable functions, ensuring timely processing, collections, and adherence to corporate credit policies.
- Monitor key performance indicators such as Days Sales Outstanding (DSO) and bad debt exposure.
- Collaborate with operations to oversee inventory counts, valuation, reconciliations, and turnover analysis, ensuring discrepancies are investigated and resolved.
- Prepare and post all incoming payments by cheque or transfers.
- Follow-up with customers on expected payments and overdue accounts.
Payroll, Tax, & Regulatory Compliance:
- Oversee Canadian payroll, CRA remittances, GST/HST filings (including recaptured Input Tax Credits [ITCs]), WSIB, Employer Health Tax [EHT], and other statutory reporting requirements.
- Coordinate U.S. payroll administration, including weekly payroll processing, quarterly and annual payroll tax filings, Internal Revenue Service [IRS] and state reporting requirements, W-2 preparation, Form 5471 reporting, and other applicable U.S. tax compliance obligations.
- Ensure the timely completion of all government, tax, and regulatory filings and maintain compliance with applicable legislation.
- Liaise with external accountants, auditors, tax advisors, and regulatory agencies for year-end reporting, audits, and tax compliance.
Internal Controls & Risk Management:
- Maintain and strengthen internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure compliance with financial policies and regulatory requirements.
- Identify financial, operational, and compliance risks and implement corrective actions where necessary.
- Ensure financial processes support audit readiness and regulatory compliance.
- Verify, post, and distribute all sales invoices.
Leadership & Team Development:
- Lead, mentor, and develop the finance team, fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
- Allocate work, establish priorities, and support the professional development of direct and indirect reports.
- Promote effective communication and collaboration between finance and operational departments.
- Other duties as required.

- Maintains strong internal controls, manages financial risk, and ensures accuracy and compliance.
- Adapts to changing business needs and works collaboratively across departments to achieve organizational goals.
What We're Looking For:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field is an asset.
- Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation is an asset.
- Minimum 4 years in a leadership or supervisory accounting role.
- Strong knowledge of ASPE or IFRS, as applicable.
- Experience preparing and analyzing financial statements, including the Profit and Loss Statement, Balance Sheet, and Cash Flow Statement.
- Experience managing accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, month-end and year-end close processes.
- Knowledge of Canadian tax legislation, payroll, CRA remittances, and statutory reporting requirements; U.S. payroll and tax reporting experience is an asset.
- Proficiency with ERP/accounting software and advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
- Experience in manufacturing, consumer packaged goods (CPG), food and beverage, or a similar operational environment is considered an asset.
