ELECTRICAL SYSTEMS & POWER COMMISSIONING LEAD

We are seeking an Electrical Systems & Power Commissioning Lead to own field-side commissioning of a complete electrical infrastructure on a large mission-critical project. The scope covers the full power path from utility interface through medium and low voltage gear, UPS systems, batteries, distribution panels, busway, and into the facility. This is a senior staff role within a newly formed commissioning team.

This position is at the site in Regina, Saskatchewan. 14 days on / 7 days off rotation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute L2 and L3 tests for electrical systems including installation verification, startup, functional checks, and safety validation
  • Lead mock-run of all L4 functional performance tests covering transfer sequences, failover behavior, breaker coordination, loss-of-component scenarios, maintenance bypass modes, and alarm responses
  • Prepare all electrical systems for L4 and L5 integrated testing, then actively participate in L4 and L5 execution alongside the broader commissioning team
  • Verify proper integration of fabricated assemblies including panels, skids, busway, and RPPs into the electrical system, closing remaining L3 checks that can only be completed on site
  • Coordinate with the equipment integration lead to ensure vendor-furnished electrical equipment including UPS systems, switchgear, and generators is commissioned and supported per plan
  • Collaborate with the controls and BMS lead to validate electrical sequences of operation and alarm and telemetry integrity in building management and power monitoring systems
  • Document all tests, defects, and resolutions consistently in the commissioning tracking system

What We Are Looking For

  • Deep experience with mission-critical or industrial electrical systems including UPS, generators, medium and low voltage switchgear, distribution panels, and busway
  • Proven ability to lead complex commissioning, startup, and integrated testing for large electrical infrastructure
  • Strong ability to read and interpret electrical single-line diagrams, protection schemes, and control logic
  • Comfortable making real-time technical decisions during live tests and troubleshooting issues under time pressure with a clear bias toward safety and correctness
  • Clear communicator capable of explaining technical behavior and risk to both engineers and non-technical stakeholders

Preferred Qualifications

  • 7+ years in electrical commissioning, testing, or operations for data centres, power plants, or other mission-critical or heavy industrial facilities
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent technical experience
  • Familiarity with formal commissioning methodologies including L1 to L5 frameworks and relevant standards such as ASHRAE, NFPA, and IEEE
  • Experience with commissioning platforms such as CxAlloy, Procore, or Facility Grid
  • Relevant certifications such as CxA, BCxP, NEBB, or P.Eng are an asset
  • Heavy industrial electrical commissioning experience is welcomed alongside direct data centre experience
  • Experience with UPS systems, medium and low voltage gear, and integrated failover testing is preferred
