JOB SUMMARY/PURPOSE

Plan, coordinate, and direct the processing of steel wheel production and the Inspection & Finishing Department on all shifts, as well as the maintenance of equipment to meet quality and quantity objectives. The Processing Manager reports to the Operations Manager. Reporting to the incumbent are the respective production and maintenance supervisors, Wheel Inspectors, and hourly staff per shift. Responsible for 40-55 (4-6 direct) headcount.

PRINCIPLE ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Supervise, direct, control, improve, plan, coordinate, and direct the hot wheel processing, Inspection Department, and maintenance of the steel wheel operation on all shifts to meet quality and quantity objectives.
  • Plan, schedule, and direct the processing, inspection, and maintenance work to avoid production delays.
  • Direct the supervision of the operation to minimize production downtime and/or defective products.
  • Ensure all wheels processed on shift meet Company and AAR specifications.
  • Maintain safety and good housekeeping standards.
  • Schedule and coordinate personnel to meet manpower utilization objectives.
  • Develop and motivate a competent staff to ensure an efficient, cost-effective operation.
  • Enforce the Company Rules & Regulations and follow complaint resolution processes to promote good working relationships with employees and fair and equitable solutions for the Company.

JOB KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

  • This position requires a Bachelor's Degree in Operations or a related discipline.
  • 3-5 years of experience supervising in a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience with Non-Destructive Testing, tooling, Quality Control (including SPC), Safety, maintenance, and capital project management.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and organizational skills.

Key Challenges

  • Maintain accurate charge make-up and temperatures meeting AAR specifications, making changes (adding alloys and additives) as necessary to avoid an off-analysis heat.
  • Motivate and supervise subordinates.
  • Ensure proper training and annual re-certification of employees.

Major Interactions

  • Team leaders in coordinating the tapping of the furnace with the pouring operation and pouring stand.
  • Maintenance Engineer for repairs of equipment and machinery to avoid production delays.
  • Human Resources Manager and Safety Manager regarding attendance records, safety issues, disciplinary action, timecards, etc.
  • Storeroom personnel in acquiring needed supplies.
