The position reports to the CFO.

Job Summary

The Financial Controller is responsible for the integrity, accuracy, and timeliness of financial operations across a diversified group of entities, including not-for-profit, holding, and operating companies in Canada and the United States. This role leads all day-to-day accounting, financial reporting, and financial planning processes, ensuring strong controls, consistent practices, and reliable information to support decision-making and organizational growth. The Controller partners closely with the CFO to translate strategic direction into effective financial execution.

Job Duties

  • Lead and manage month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes across all entities
  • Prepare and consolidate financial statements
  • Ensure accuracy, completeness, and timeliness of all financial reporting
  • Deliver variance analysis and insights to support leadership decision-making
  • Oversee all accounting functions (GL, AP, AR)
  • Manage intercompany transactions and reconciliations across entities
  • Standardize accounting policies and procedures across the organization
  • Ensure consistent application of accounting practices
  • Lead the annual budgeting and forecasting processes across all business units
  • Collaborate and support functional business leaders with reporting, data and information
  • Develop and maintain financial models supporting planning activities
  • Monitor performance against budget and provide regular variance reporting
  • Ensure financial plans align with strategic priorities set by the CFO and management team
  • Coordinate tax filings and compliance requirements across Canada and the United States
  • Support external audits and regulatory requirements, including not-for-profit considerations
  • Maintain and strengthen internal controls and financial policies
  • Support risk management processes in partnership with the CFO
  • Own and optimize day-to-day use of ERP and financial systems
  • Ensure financial data integrity across systems
  • Identify and implement process improvements to increase efficiency and scalability
  • Ensure consistency and reliability of financial and operational data
  • Mentor and support development of finance team members (if applicable)

Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in finance, accounting, or a related field; CPA required
  • 510+ years of progressive accounting/finance experience
  • Experience with multi-entity organizations; cross-border exposure (Canada/US) is an asset
  • Strong understanding of financial reporting, controls, and compliance
  • Advanced Excel and ERP/system experience
  • High attention to detail with strong organizational and process discipline
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines
