Role Overview

Durwest is hiring a Carpenter to support our site construction teams in delivering high-quality residential and commercial building projects across Victoria and Vancouver Island. This role is central to the structural craftsmanship and hands-on execution that define the Durwest Building Experience.

As a Carpenter, you will work closely with Superintendents, Project Managers, and fellow tradespeople to frame, form, and finish structures to the highest standard. Your work will directly shape the safety, quality, and pride that our clients and team members experience on every Durwest project.

Key Focus Areas

Carpentry + Framing

  • Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and specifications to plan layout and construction sequencing.
  • Frame walls, floors, roofs, and other structural components for residential and commercial builds.
  • Install doors, windows, stairs, and millwork to specification and finish standard.

Formwork + Concrete

  • Build, erect, and strip concrete formwork for foundations, walls, columns, and slabs.
  • Ensure formwork is plumb, level, and properly braced prior to concrete placement.
  • Collaborate with concrete crews to support pours and finishing operations.

Site Safety + Quality Control

  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment in compliance with BC OHS regulations and Durwest safety standards.
  • Perform daily inspections of tools, equipment, and work areas; report hazards promptly.
  • Support and mentor apprentice carpenters, modeling Durwests standards of quality and professionalism.

Collaboration + Communication

  • Coordinate with other trades (electrical, plumbing, HVAC) to sequence work efficiently and avoid conflicts.
  • Communicate progress, issues, and material needs clearly to the Site Superintendent.
  • Contribute to a positive, respectful site culture that reflects Durwests values of precision, collaboration, and care.

Youre dependable, detail-oriented, and the kind of person teammates want on their crew.

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of carpentry experience, including residential or commercial framing, formwork, and finishing work on construction sites.
  • Working knowledge of BC Building Code requirements, construction drawings, and standard carpentry. techniques including wood framing and concrete formwork.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction blueprints, shop drawings, and specifications accurately.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to adapt to changing site conditions and priorities.
  • Commitment to worksite safety; current knowledge of BC OHS regulations and safe work practices.
  • Completion of a Carpentry apprenticeship program, or equivalent trade experience preferred.

Considered an asset:

  • Experience with engineered wood products (LVL, I-joists, glulam) and prefabricated building systems.
  • Red Seal Carpenter certification or Journeyperson status.
