The Opportunity

As a Project Engineer 3, you will serve as the senior technical authority on complex, multi-discipline industrial projects — leading all aspects of engineering delivery from initial planning through final closeout. You will work directly with Project Managers and clients, direct and mentor junior Project Engineers, and be accountable for project cost, schedule, safety, quality and team performance.

This is a hands-on leadership role for an experienced engineering professional who thrives in a fast-paced project environment, brings strong technical depth across multiple disciplines, and is ready to step into lead project engineering responsibility on projects up to $10M.

What You Will Do

Project Planning & Technical Leadership

  • Lead project planning, scheduling and execution strategy for complex multi-discipline projects.
  • Define team structure, roles and responsibilities; direct the work of PE1 and PE2 staff.
  • Chair project meetings; identify and resolve technical and project management issues.
  • Coordinate multi-discipline engineering interfaces and manage technical document workflows.

Cost Control & Financial Management

  • Manage and approve project cost reports; monitor labour, material and sub-trade costs.
  • Sign off purchase orders and change orders within delegated authority.
  • Prepare monthly cost-to-complete forecasts; support operating budget development.
  • Identify cost risks proactively; develop and implement mitigation strategies.

Schedule Management

  • Develop and maintain project schedules in Primavera P6 or MS Project.
  • Monitor critical path performance; chair weekly schedule reviews with supervision and sub-contractors.
  • Assess time impact of scope changes; coordinate schedule adjustments with PM and client.

Safety Leadership

  • Lead the Safety & Environmental program on site; chair safety meetings and toolbox talks.
  • Review and approve sub-contractor safety plans, JSAs and pre-task plans.
  • Investigate incidents and near-misses; champion a zero-incident safety culture.

Quality Management

  • Implement and oversee the project QMP and ITP program across all disciplines.
  • Review and approve NCRs, corrective actions and QA documentation.
  • Manage the deficiency and punch list process through to final client acceptance.

Procurement & Sub-contract Administration

  • Manage the full procurement cycle; approve POs within delegated authority.
  • Scope, tender, evaluate and administer sub-contract packages.
  • Monitor material deliveries; resolve supply chain issues proactively.

Reporting, Document Control & Closeout

  • Prepare comprehensive weekly and monthly project status reports for PM review.
  • Manage drawing control, document register and change order documentation.
  • Lead project closeout: as-built drawings, warranties, deficiency lists and O&M manuals.

Team Leadership & Mentoring

  • Direct, evaluate and mentor Project Engineers at PE1 and PE2 level.
  • Conduct performance reviews; develop individual growth plans for team members.
  • Foster a collaborative, accountable and high-performance project team culture.

What You Bring

Education & Registration

  • Engineering degree in a relevant discipline (Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, Process, Structural or equivalent).
  • Eng. designation required — full registration in good standing.
  • Gold Seal Certification (GSC) or PMP designation considered a strong asset.
  • COR, NCSO or equivalent safety leadership training considered an asset.

Experience

  • 10+ years of progressive engineering and project experience on industrial construction or engineering projects.
  • Demonstrated leadership of all functional areas of project delivery: planning, scheduling, cost control, contracts, procurement, safety and quality.
  • Proven track record leading projects or major scopes up to $10M from inception through closeout.
  • Experience directing and mentoring junior engineering staff.
  • Exposure to industrial sectors such as oil & gas, petrochemical, mining or heavy industrial.

Skills & Competencies

  • Expert technical knowledge across relevant engineering disciplines and applicable codes, standards and specifications.
  • Proficient in Primavera P6 or MS Project; able to independently develop and manage a project schedule.
  • Advanced MS Office skills; proficient in cost reporting, earned value and financial forecasting in Excel.
  • Sound commercial acumen — able to administer contracts, manage change, and support dispute resolution.
  • Strong safety leadership: committed to zero-incident culture; experienced in site safety program administration.
  • Client-focused, professional communicator — confident presenting to clients and senior leadership.
  • Decisive, organized and resourceful under pressure; able to manage multiple priorities without loss of quality.
