Crisis Mobile Response (RPN)


We provide primary health care through a range of options including prevention, assessment, diagnosis
and treatment. Our interprofessional teams include health professionals, educators and support
workers representing both traditional Indigenous and contemporary models of care and using wholistic
health and community development concepts.
The Crisis Mobile Response RPN works within an interprofessional team comprised of registered and
non-registered healthcare professionals, both directly and under the facilitation of medical directives,
to increase the capacity for service provision to the population seen in outreach. The Crisis Mobile
Response RPN works in partnership with the Treaty 3 Police Service (T3PS) and assists in calls for
service by providing on-site emergency assessments to determine the most appropriate course of
action (transport to hospital, treat in field, etc). This position is part of the Ontario Nurses Association
Bargaining unit.
NOTE: Traditional practices involve cultural ceremonies and burning sacred medicines including
tobacco, sweetgrass, sage and cedar within the work setting.


PRIMARY DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES:
Attends calls for service and assesses clients for urgency of intervention by conducting clinical
and mental health risk assessments in coordination with police officers.
Responds to crisis situations by obtaining information, determining when a response is
necessary, and coordinating a response with the police and other emergency providers,
providing outreach, short term treatment, crisis intervention, stabilization, and referrals.
Carry out assessment, nursing diagnosis, and treatment within the nursing scope of practice,
including but not limited to assessing episodic issues, screening, vaccination, and client
education.
Provides medication management by maintaining a medication kit, administering medications
in accordance with physician orders, monitoring effects of medications, and providing related
information to clients.
Collaborate with interprofessional team members to ensure comprehensive wholistic care for
clients, making referrals and seeking and/or providing consulting support as appropriate.
Maintain current and accurate health records, reports and other documentation to ensure
comprehensive, consistent care and services, and to meet all accountability requirements.
Active participation in organizational teams and committees.
Other duties as required. In extenuating situations or in the event of an emergency, may be
redeployed to ensure provision of essential services.


QUALIFICATIONS:
Current registration as a Registered Practical Nurse with the College of Nurses of Ontario
Willingness to work to a full scope including performing delegated acts through medical directives
Experience and demonstrated ability to work within a wholistic care model; able to work
independently and be an effective team member
Experience working in an Indigenous organization and ability to understand and speak
Anishinaabemowin a definite asset
Demonstrated sensitivity to cultural issues and respect for the beliefs and values of Indigenous
people and communities
Demonstrated ability work independently and be an effective team member
Willingness and ability to travel
Valid drivers license and own vehicle required; copy of current drivers abstract required
Current criminal records check required
Commitment to ongoing training and professional development relevant to the job
Positive attitude and capacity to act as a healthy lifestyle role model
Proof of immunization in compliance with policy requirements is mandatory


Salary: $30.85-$38.91per hour with excellent benefits, including HOOPP pension plan. Salary is in
accordance with the Ontario Nurses Association Contract (ONA).
