The Opportunity:

True Mechanical is seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Estimator to join our team, focusing specifically on our Special Projects division. The ideal candidate will be responsible for accurately estimating the costs for mechanical systems within these fast-paced and often unique projects, ensuring competitive and successful bids.

Roles & Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and complete accurate cost estimates for TI, Renovation, and other special projects, typically ranging from $50,000 up to multimillion dollar values.
  • Analyze project plans, specifications, proposals, existing site conditions, and other documentation to prepare comprehensive time, cost, material, and labor estimates.
  • Effectively manage the tender process, including distributing documents and addendums to relevant sub-trades and suppliers for quotes.
  • Perform detailed quantity take-offs for mechanical systems.
  • Identify and quantify potential risks, challenges, and opportunities unique to working within existing structures or occupied spaces.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with sub-trades, suppliers, and clients active in the market.
  • Prepare complete tender proposal packages, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
  • Price site instructions and change requests accurately and efficiently.
  • Collaborate with project managers during the pre-construction phase and ensure smooth project handovers after award.
  • Maintain estimating workbooks, databases, and historical data for project metrics.
  • Track bidding success rates and contribute to analyzing bid performance within the Special Projects division.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Proven 3+ years of experience as an Estimator in the mechanical contracting industry, with specific experience in Special Projects strongly preferred.
  • Trimble Experience
  • Proficiency with AutoBid estimating software.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical systems (HVAC, Plumbing, Piping).
  • Experience reading and interpreting construction drawings and specifications.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and time-management skills, capable of handling multiple bids simultaneously.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills for liaising with internal teams, clients, and vendors.
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite, particularly Excel.
  • Relevant post-secondary education or trade certification is an asset.
